The rear spoiler adjustment is a fairly straight forward procedure.
On my car, the gap to the rear hatch and side to side position were OK.
However, the height of the spoiler ends where they meet the rear fenders were way off.

This is the second run at this DIY, unfortunately this site didn’t seem to like embedded pictures in the first attempt.
To avoid a bunch of thumbnail pics all together I’ve broken it up in a series of posts.

Firstly, I would rate this a 4 out of 10 in terms of difficulty but it does take a little patience.
It took me a couple of attempts before I was satisfied with the result.

I’ll lay this out step by step.
It’s important to do things in the right sequence.

Tools Needed

  • T-20 Torx bit for screws removal.
  • Small ratchet or alternatively a Torx bit driver with flex coupling.
  • 13mm socket
  • 10mm socket – deep socket is best
  • Fine point marker (or similar)

Step 1

Step 1 Measure the adjustment needed

  • Check gap to hatch/boot
  • Check gap at fenders.
(on mine there was more gap at the hatch than fenders)
  • Check side to side alignment.
  • Check vertical alignment at the ends where they meet the fenders.
Look straight on from the sides of the car and note how much it needs to change and in which direction.

Step 2

Step 2 - Remove painted spoiler top

  • Open hatch/boot
  • Raise spoiler (from center console)
  • There are 6 screws to be removed along the leading edge (T-20)
  • With screws removed, slide painted spoiler rearwards.
    It moves very freely.

Step 3

Step 3 Making adjustments
With the top cover removed, you will see two 13mm nuts and flat washers (flat washer is captured with nut)
These 2 nuts are fastening the black plastic lower section in place.
They are also used to make adjustments for side to side and front to rear.
Please follow the sequence below in order.

  1. Take a fine point marker pen and trace around the edge of the large flat washer.
This is important to establish the current horizontal position.

  2. When both washer positions are marked, the two 13mm nuts can be removed.
The lower section will be completely free, so ensure that it does not fall off.
It does, however, sit in place fairly well.

  3. Vertical Adjustment
With the 13mm nuts removed, you will see a smaller 10mm nut below each.
These 10mm nuts controls the height adjustment for the spoiler.
Using a 10mm socket you will turn the nut clockwise or counter clockwise to make the adjustment. (both sides)

To get an idea for how much you are moving the spoiler look at the spoiler support on the underside.
Check the starting point and then measure how much it needs to move.

    After you make the adjustments;
    - put the 13mm nuts back on finger tight (use your maker tracing to position)
    - Slide the spoiler top back on (you can put a couple of the T20 screws back finger tight)
    - Then lower the spoiler. (hold button until LED goes off)
    - check your vertical position again to see what additional adjustment is required.
    - Once satisfied with the vertical, you can proceed to horizontal adjustments.
4. Horizontal Adjustment

- make these adjustments with the spoiler in the down position.
This way you will not move it too close to the front and have interference with the hatch/boot and fenders. (no scratched paint please!!)
- using your trace markings around the flat washers as a guide you can make the appropriate changes.

There is a large amount of adjustment possible, as the opening is quite large.

That's about it.

You may have to fiddle with it a few times until you're satisfied with it.
At that point snug the 13mm down (do not over tighten)
Then reinstall the spoiler top with the 6 screws.

For those of you wanting torque numbers; sorry but I don't have them.

Enjoy! :D

I’ve just done this adjustment and now my spoiler fits nice and flush along with a nice flow from the rear hatch. It’s does take a bit of tinkering to get it perfect but worth it.
Thanks for the post.

I bought the carbon fiber rear spoiler for my 718 but no installation instructions. Does anyone know how to install this ? Do I take the factory spoiler off or does this sit on top of the OEM SPOILER

Any chance this can be reopened for editing??
Looks like it didn't transpose well when the site was changed.
I think you can edit them just fine by going under the three dots at the top right of each post. What I would do is simply open the post with edit, copy the whole thing and paste it into a text document, kill off the code, copy it all again and then highlight the existing contents of the post you are editing and paste the cleaned text right in. Hope that isn't too obvious, but I always look for the easiest way to do something.

Depends on the kind of CF rear spoiler you bought. My TWL was the whole spoiler which simply bolted on the brackets. I have seen another variation that just replaces the top of the stock spoiler and that would be even easier. Everything you need to know is included in @InTgr8r very thorough post above.
