I’m seriously thinking about a remap for my 718CS, which is now coming up to 2 years old. Probably just stage 1 at first, although I suspect once I’ve taken the plunge an exhaust (or sport cat downpipe) might be inevitable – not least because I would like a slightly richer, more tonal sound than the existing PSE (but not too loud).

Based on what I’ve read so far, the main (reputable) contenders here in the UK/Europe would appear to be:

Ehresmann (+59 HP & +51 Lbs-ft) €3,600
Techart (+50 HP & +45 Lbs-ft) €3,450
FVD Brombacher (+65 HP & +74 Lbs-ft) €2,370 (based on re-writing existing DME/ECU)

I am however struggling to find any owners’ reviews. Does anyone have any of above 718 remaps please? Are they worth the money, and is the performance gain night-and-day?

They’re all fairly similar price-wise (if you include the cost of new ECU for FVD Brombacher). They all also offer a new DME/ECU, giving you the option go back to stock by simply reinstalling the old DME/ECU – which is allegedly only a 15 minute job and essentially plug-and-play.

I was learning towards Techart, primarily because they effectively take over Porsche’s warranty for the engine and transmission. Plus, their remap is only activated in Sport and Sport+, so the car is still sock in Normal mode - perhaps useful in the wet / snow (my car is my daily driver). However, it was suggested somewhere that with Techart’s remap torque is actually lower than stock below 2,500 rpm. I can’t verify this from their published graphs because they don’t include a stock comparison, but it looks like there is a slightly slower initial increase – with peak torque between 2,750 rpm and 5,000 rpm (whereas stock is 1,900 rpm to 4,500 rpm). The torque curves of the over two look a little different. They appear to be not quite as flat, but higher overall, and peak torque is slightly later – 4,000-5,000 rpm for Ehresmann and 3,500-4,000 rpm for FVD.

Power wise they’re not too dissimilar: Techart’s is the least linear with a slower rate of increase at around 2,750 rpm.

Any thoughts / comments would be much appreciated.

Tough question, are you planning to visit a dealer and get the car on the dyno?
I have done some statement below and conclusions

Ehresmann and Brombacher can tune your current ECU or you buy a new that has been tuned.
Mount the tuned ECU and your good to go.
The tune is a stock tune, not optimized for your car

To have the tune done on a dyno thats the right way to do it.
A visit to Ehresmann and you get a optimized tune plus dyno charts, also you dont need to buy a new ECU (~ 1200EUR )

Techart, thats a piggy and i dont think you can remove it and at least in Sweden there is no dyno involved
You cant mount it by yourself and how Porsche reacts to it when you service your car depends on the dealer and its a stock tune.
And before anyone runs of the get the Techart, plz read the fineprint regarding the warranty!!!!
I have not been reading it myself but i would not be suprised if there is alot of limitations

Many thanks for the replay johan.

In terms of visiting either Ehresmann or Brombacher, it's not out of the question. It's not too far from the UK, and I'm hoping to get back to the Nurburgring this year so could coincide it with that. But I would just like to get some real world reviews before taking the plunge.

The attraction of a supplementary ECU was that when I came to sell the car etc. it could easily be reverted back to stock without having to go back to the supplier.

I suspect you're reservations about Techart's warranty are correct. It does seem too good to be true.

I have talked a bit with Jens Ehresmann and he does not regard sending a tuned ECU as a bad thing to do, a visit just does it a little better :)
I dont know if you can send your current ECU but i guess it would be Ok...

I have the TechArt box which was dynoed at 380.1 HP at the rear wheel, maybe 420-430HP at the crankshaft?
The mods transformed the car. Only one track day since, but it is faster than my 911 GTS....
It is essentially "hidden" from your dealer and the warranty is very strong and transferable.
It is so good I will likely reconsider my GT4 order.....

I have been running a flash for a year , and it has been working real fine
It is active in sport and sport+ and gives an extra 55 hp and 88nm on my GTS.
The flash was done in Norway, but the the Flach tool and maps are delivered by a wholsale company from Italy who has dealers in a lot of countrys, also in the UK, at least until Brexit kicks in...

Really interesting to have real world impressions from the Techart box ...

Have you done any track days ? And what is the minimum octane requirement

What other mods are involved ?

Cheers,

I just made a apointmemt with FVD BROMBACHER in the end of september, its a manual 718 T.
It will give 345hk and for me that has a catback installed I can expect around 360 hk.
Its the safe number when you track the car. I only use my 718 T on track.
The problem istnt the engine but the manual gearbox has issuse with to high tourqe (no problem with PDK) I have talked alot with both FVD and Jens at Ehresmann about this and for an manual trackday car you can get problems when you go up to 400hk. Ehresmann dont even do ECU uppgrades anymore on manual 2.5 L because he get numbers over 400hk and a very high tourqe and there has been 3rd gear failure.

Look forwrad your experience
