Do you feel pdk will be more reliable long term vs manual?

Many of you know I'm eagerly awaiting the official announcement for the presumed next generation GT4. I love manual transmissions (don't have anything against PDK) but I have to admit, I'm a little concerned about "3rd gear failures". I first heard of this with the previous generation GT4 and now in select 718 manual transmissions. Do our members think or know if the PDK is a more robust set up for long term ownership. As much as I'm craving a manual GT4, if PDK is offered, would it be a "better" choice for the reasons/concerns expressed, (NOT from a performance standpoint)...obviously if a manual is the only choice...I have no choice....Thanks?

I posed this in another PDK-related thread: I would highly recommend researching the discussions on Porsche-related forums such as P9, rennlist, and 6speedonline to supplant any responses here. The PDK's only been around for about a decade, and this forum's been around for barely a year. You'll find much more discussion there that could inform the question you're asking here.

Uz718's single anecdote is probably not useless in his instance.
True. But a forum is one of the worst possible places to gauge the overall reliability of a particular car -- heck, a particular anything. Why?

Because it's human nature to ask and complain about problems far more often than it is to mention what one likes,
it's human nature to remember, and let others know about, problems and negatives far more often than it is to remember likes and positives, and
it's human nature, as well as cultural in this internet age, to pursue causes that relate to negative and extreme experiences than it is to pursue causes that relate to positive, relatively mundane experiences.

This is Sociology 101, folks.

The only remotely objective way to glean whether or not something is an issue is through statistics. That's part of the reason why I've recommended other forums that have been around far longer than this one to help members gauge the reliability of the PDK. Actual statistics -- even something relatively mundane on its face, such as the prevalence of anti-PDK or negative PDK threads -- are far more likely to be available there than here.

Think about this for a moment: The fact that you're a member of a forum for a specific thing means you have an abnormal interest in that thing. It's evidence of enthusiasm and, dare I say it, extremism, whether positive or negative. The majority of 718 owners are not on forums.
