Hey all

I took delivery of my 718CS about a month ago and noticed a loud rattle coming from the driver side seatbelt area when going over rougher roads and when PSE was engaged. This was a louder rattle and would envelope the whole cabin when at full volume. Sticking some insulating foam in the seatbelt holder area appeared to decrease the volume but the rattle itself persisted. I ended up taking it to the local dealer for them to check it out.

The dealer was able to reproduce the rattle, and they tried insulating the seatbelt trim piece and driving with all the trim pieces removed, neither of which solved the rattle. They theorized the sound was originating from somewhere else and traveling to the seatbelt trim area. They tracked the rattle down to a piece that was under the driver side floor area behind the seat (technician called it DME or something?).

So far I have driven it for a few days and the rattle is completely gone. I wanted to share this info in case anyone else happens to have the same issue in the future.

DME under driver seat cant be right, DME/ECU is the same thing and is located in the rear trunk.
On older Boxsters/Caymans the alarm Control unit was under the driver seat, might be the same today.

But what ever sits there, its not bolted correctly, Good Catch!!

I have an 8 month old UK registered 718 Cayman S that had the same problem and the same solution.

Rattle appeared to be from driver seat belt assembly but was actually under the drivers seat floor area. Report I got was that brackets holding a cage containing an electronic unit (alarm or tracker device I think) were broken when the car was manufactured, assembly had to be replaced.

Very tricky to pin down I think because you have to remove seat and then of course the car cannot be test driven. So full marks to Porsche Centre Reading and their tech guy Justin for finding and fixing this.

Hour long test drive this morning on Oxfordshire's potholed roads and I now seem to have a completely rattle-free car.

I have this same rattle!

Driving me nuts and its really difficult to try and figure out what it is while driving.

Is there any way you can find out exactly what they did?

...I believe another member stated the rattle was caused by the broken bracket associated with said module, be it under (or behind) the drivers seat floor area. Replacement of the bracket eliminated his rattle...

I know this is an old thread but I have this same problem. When I’m driving if I place my right hand on top of the seatbelt housing it goes away. Do you think it is still originating from the bracket beneath the seat?

Yes I finally resolved the rattle. Last time I was at the dealer they popped of the plastic top to the seatbelt housing. There is a metal piece under it. They placed felt on top of the metal piece an replace the plastic top. Voila, no more rattle! Good luck.
