I dont often drive with both sides all the way down,
but noticed today that the passengers (right) window lowers completely into the door whereas the drivers remains partially above the door. (2-3cm)

I did a quick search but didnt find anything on this.

Thats not correct, both windows should be able to go all the way down.
And if you open a door the window goes up a couple of mm to prevent rattle.
Close the door and it should go down past the seal

I don't believe that's quite the correct procedure. From the manual (http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/2017-718-cayman-manual/17/305/Malfunctions-Power-windows)

Storing final position of windows
The final positions of the windows are lost after the battery is disconnected and reconnected. Windows automatic mode is not operative.

Perform the following steps for all windows:

  1. Close window completely once by pulling the switch to the second setting.
  2. When the window is completely closed, briefly pull the switch to the second setting again three times.
  3. Completely open the window once by pressing the switch.

Thanks guys, that confirms its just my car.
I'm familiar with the limits reset procedure.
It doesn't work in this case.

I also have speaker that's gone, so I'll get both looked at.

I just noticed i have the same issue as well. Not sure this happened because of the battery disconnect i did. But is te routine mentioned above is the correct one to learn the window positions ?

The correct way to have the car re-learn the window positions is in the manual for the 2021 model year (see page 64 and 292 in the US manual, "store the final position of the power windows"), as quoted by phroenips. You pull the switch three times, although many will say to hold it ten seconds that doesn't always work (i've tried it both ways after reconnecting the battery). If the window doesn't work in auto up/down mode and only wants you to hold the button manually at the first click, then you know the windows need to be reset. I've also had the issue of one window staying up a fraction of an inch with the door closed, as the OP describes.

As for a list of the issues I've encountered in terms of what to do if you disconnect/reconnect the battery: 1. window up/dow re-learning, 2. clock time, and 3. TPMS choice of wheels. The manual says to check it and then the car will "teach in" the tires after a battery re-connect - page 235 to 238 (but this did not seem to be necessary on mine it knew I had the base wheels and gave pressure readings right away without learning the wheels, it may be necessary if you replace a TPMS sensor). All other settings seem to stay in memory such as dimmer settings on the instrument lights and the overhead lights in courtesy mode.

I have the same issue as the Original Post. Seems to have occurred after I had Paint Protection Film Installed.

I have tried all the Window Position "Reset" procedures and it does not resolve the issue. So I stopped by the Dealer Service Center and they looked at it. Their initial assessment was that the door window had been assembled in the "911 position" versus the "718 position", as it is reaching the lower physical stop. Have you ever heard of this?

I will asked the PPF installer if they removed the interior panel, as they removed the sideview mirror to install the PPF, yet I do not see how that could have physically change the window position lower stop.

Does anyone have more insight into these window lower stop points? And how they can get changed by pulling the interior door panel?

Thanks!!

Probably the window position got unlearned after the battery was disconnected. It took me few tries with the learning routine to teach the door module the end positions. I would suggest trying it few more times.

Thanks, I would think you are correct, yet I have tried 24+ times, using the procedure in the manual. The Dealer Service Manager tried with no luck. How do you "Teach" the window the lower position if it never goes there?

Was the door closed when you teach the position ? When I leave my door open and try to lower the window it stops ~2-3 cms before the trim.
I believe the procedure I did was Lower the window by pressing down on the button and then release the button, press and hold down for 5 seconds. Pull the button up and when it stops, release and pull the button and hold for 5 seconds.

Thanks, yes the door was closed for all reset attempts. My concern with any of these procedures is that the window never reaches the fully lowered desired position, stays 3+ inches (~9 cm) high from the trim. I tried your procedure with no success..... Thanks anyway for the info. Maybe something to do with the control module??
