I have a 2018 718 Boxster S with PDK and Sports Chrono.
I was wondering if there any disadvantages of driving in sports mode all the time. I use my car as a daily drive and even do my shopping with it.
I normally don't speed, but I like the extra responsiveness of sports mode.I've not been in Sports+ yet. I've used the Sports Response button once.

The biggest disadvantage I've found is that at a steady speed on a long trip normal mode gets better mileage. It runs higher shift points so you actually cruise in 7th gear, and it goes into coast mode readily enough. It's a bit quieter too, which is nice on longer trips.

I agree as above about the mileage being better in freeway legal speeds.

I also drive (occasionally) in Normal in 30+ min city trips to evaporate any water mixed in the oil due to condensation. Houston is very humid...:cautious:

According to me, ECU is sending more rich gasoline to engine in sport mode and not focusing for economy. Because when remove my foot from accelerator, I can hear some explosion noise from exhaust. However, in normal mode it not happens even when sport exhaust is enable.

Same as others have said : normal mode for longer trips and cruising ; sport mode as soon as I get to the twisty B-roads

same for me as most others.
I sometimes have a brain cramp and forget to switch it to sport at startup and wonder why its running so tame. :)
Yesterday, I did some shopping errands. After the second stop, on the way to the third, the car was not pulling... I was terrified to glance at an oil temperature of 214F

...then I realized that I was on Normal mode...:ROFLMAO::LOL:

FWIW, 214F is not especially hot. Normal boiling point of water s 212F.

Truth be told, the thing which keeps me from using Normal mode more often is that the PDK upshifts so early. That leads to me shifting manually or switching the PDK to manual mode, which leads me to forget that it is manual until I wonder why revs so high the nex ttime I pull away form a stoplight.

The crackles and pops are not about the engine running richer in general. They are the ECU change the tune on overrun to intentionally make the noise for fund and giggles. The way it is done is previously the injectors were turned off on overrun, but the ECU leaves them on and retards the ignition timing to fire the spark after the exhaust valve is open, so instead of the fuel burning in the combustion chamber, it causes the bang in the exhaust. There would be very tiny increase in fuel usage for this... and it sounds cool... and that is why it is done!

Don't think this is applicable to the 718 but, due to the active air intake flaps on the 991.2 911, I keep it in Normal Mode until normal operating temperature:

"The flaps automatically close while the car is in motion, thereby reducing drag. On demand or in SPORT, SPORT PLUS or PSM Sport mode, the flaps open, helping to provide optimum engine cooling".
