Somewhat glossed over in the news that the 991.2 SDI21 ECU was cracked is that this led to ECU tuning also opening up for the 9A2B4 2.0 and 2.5 motors in the Porsche 718 models.

What kind of power are we looking at for a Stage I tune for a 718 Boxster or Cayman S? Roughly 430 horsepower at the crank:

An increase of 80 horsepower but that torque curve is questionable. Why it is spooling later tuned is anyone's guess but there is a ton more area under the curve from 3000 rpm until redline.

How does this stack up to say a tuned 991.2 Carrera GTS? The tuned 718 S makes roughly 100 less horsepower. Another way to look at it is making almost stock 991.2 GTS horsepower. That should result in slightly over 400 rwhp on a Dynojet.

That makes for quite a Porsche performance bargain and the 718 GTS model with its larger turbo will make even more power when tuned.

It is a good time to be a Porsche enthusiast at any area of the model spectrum.

PorscheBoost - B&C Consulting cracks the 9A2 SDI21 ECU with tuning available for Porsche 991.2 Carrera, S, GTS, and T - Tuned GTS dyno result
First results in on the Cayman S is 430 HP at the crank and 515 NM. Mcchip-dkr's initial results

Expect we will soon be seeing more tuner dyno results including baseline runs-- so we will get a better read on true horsepower from-the-factory for 718 S. Just for our forum betting pool I'm going with 390.

All of which is misleading as heck because all numbers include a critical piece of non-software: a downpipe. (GAWD I hate the snake oil that tuning companies soak their claims in ... )

OP @peaedvard : No one company has 'cracked' the 718's ECU. Several have, and several have ECU flashes already on the market for both the 2.0 and 2.5.

I have a 2017 718 Cayman S with a GIAC tune that had some issues and was wondering if anyone had any insight. My experience is as follows...
On the highway I was in 6th gear driving with moderate acceleration. Between 2900 and 3100 RPM, the acceleration and rpms would stutter with vibration (likely from some turbo chatter) and I had this message pop up...
29236

Thereafter my accelerator went dead and I’d braked to a stop on the shoulder. I put the car in park and turned off the ignition. Upon starting again, car drove fine but the check engine persisted till the next morning when I brought it in to the shop.
Ever since, I have removed the tune and have had no issues; however, I do miss the extra power and was wondering if anyone has had this experience and, if it was resolved, how so?

What is the CEL for? Have you talked to GIAC about it?
