Hi All, I am having a strange issue with my 2019 base 718. I got into my car for really the first time for the spring season here in NJ and noticed a burning, smokey smell. I didn't think much of it until I realized my airbag light remained on and the heat wasn't working. I checked the fuse box in the driver side foot well and found a fuse (that belongs to drivers seat) blown. I pulled it out. I came back the next day and checked the car and the burning smell remained. I went a step further and unplugged the driver seat connection and found that it had been burning and was melted. I plan on calling the dealer and bringing it in if I can during this Coronavirus lockdown.

Anyone seen this before or have had the same issue? The car is only 1 year old with 1900 miles.

Looks to me like their has been a short and lucky your car didn't go up in smoke. Certianly potential grounds for a mass recall if the fault is not just peculiar to your car. Sometimes the small pins can become bent when out of alignment and inserting the plug which can cause these sorts of problems albeit very rare. I had a 2006 Saab that this happened and kept draining the battery but no smoke!

I'll be interested to hear what Porsche says.

Keep us posted. I'd be interested to hear how this turns out.

By the way, I have a base Cayman too and I'm also in NJ. What dealer?

Wow that looks bad. And as Don said, could have caused a fire destroying the car and more. Obviously you had it garaged and stored for Winter so no issues with road salt. That could cause a short like that. Obviously the dealer is the best call for this.

That calls to mind the saying that on a British roadster the wiring will burn out to protect the fuse. More to the point (and pointless after the fact), the blown fuse was a clue. Simply replacing it without looking further was probably not the best move. I don't recall if you said that it blew a second time.

Or why do the British drink warm beer? ................. Lucas makes their refrigerators ? :)
Actually, they drink cool beer. They keep in the cellar where they have a Lucas heater.

Why don't Jaguar E-type roadsters have labels on the switches on the dashboard? I doesn't matter. None of them do anything anyway.
