Some questions about this oddball "feature"...

Engine Auto On/Off: what is your experience?

Can the engine Auto On/Off function be deactivated permanently? Or does it have to be deactivated every dang time you star up the car?

Does the AC compressor deactivate since the engine would be off? I live in Texas and I need the AC running at all times in the Summer.

thanks!

If the AC is on, and you have climate control, then the engine won't shut off, because it knows that it needs to stay running to keep the temps where you set them.

And yes, tt has to be deactivated every time you start the car; blame govt regulators and CAFE standards for that one.

i don't know if anyone has delved into the software on our cars but i know on my 2013 5 series you could get into the computer (via software on a laptop and a modified ODBII-to-ethernet cable) and modify hundreds of options on the cars. things like the auto start/stop always off, remote windows up/down or both, changing the angle the side mirror moved to when backing up, turning on the video feeds at any speed, etc. if they can do it to bmw i am sure someone has the ability to do it with porsche.

to a lesser degree you can do the same thing to modern ford vehicles. i've done a few of those mods myself.

BMWs are known for so-called 'coding' such as this. Porsches -- in fact, VW AG cars in general -- are not. VWs and Audis can have a few basic things coded (DRLs, comfort/cabin settings, diagnostics), but that's about it. Porsches have, to my knowledge, zero coding capability.

Generally, if a car can be 'coded' -- which basically means the operations of the car that are controlled by the electronics' various control modules (every modern car has several such modules, each dedicated to a specific category of functions), there will be all manner of control programs, apps, services, cables, etc. to enable it. Porsches don't have any of that swag on the market, and there are very few discussions about this on Porsche forums.

If you have the Sport Chrono you can use the individual setting and program it to disable the engine off feature. I think it is automatically disabled in the Sport and Sport+ modes.
I have considered using the individual setting and program it to Normal engine and PASM off, with auto engine stop off. I just haven't done it yet....

There is an aftermarket module that you can buy that allows some of the buttons by the shifter to retain their settings, and particularly the auto start/stop. To install it you have to pull apart some of the trim on the transmission tunnel. I was so worried about breaking the trim that I just learned to always press the off button or the Sport button, which also deactivates auto start/stop.
