I realize I'm going to catch a lot of crap for this, but has anyone tried the Falken Azenis FK510 on their 718? I still have the OEM P-Zeros on my 718 CS with about 20k miles on them. They need to be replaced. I understand that the Michelin PS4S is the benchmark, but they are fairly expensive. I also realize we drive expensive vehicles, and tires are probably not the best place to save money, but the Falken Azenis' seems like a viable option. As you might infer from the 20k+ on the OEM P-Zeros, I don't drive my 718 very hard on public roads - few canyon runs, but nowhere near the limit(s). I use a separate set of wheels and tires for the track. From my reading on Tirerack.com, it appears the Azenis are not quite as highly rated overall, but put down almost identical numbers in the wet. And the price is literally half compared to the PS4S's. Curious to hear what others have to say about this....

I also will be needing a new set of shoes soon and am seriously considering the Falkens. Now that Falken is OEM on the Macan, the brand has gotten some cred, and at half the price of the PS4S they are certainly cheap enough to take a chance on. I don't plan on tracking them and most of my miles are put on as a daily driver. I have searched the forums but found nothing from Porsche owners. The Azenis are getting great reviews on Tire Rack but it sure would be good to hear someone's actual experience with them on a 718.

If it makes any difference, I just received an email from Discount Tire about their July 4th 20% off Michelin sale through July 6. There is a 10% instant rebate, with another 10% by mail-in rebate if you use their credit card, bringing the total to under $1,100. Still not as cheap as the Falkens but this does close the gap.

I’m surprised by the lack of response to this topic.
I'm about to put on my 2nd set of rear N1 Pirelli tires on my 20" wheel set.

Once the new rear & older front tires are worn down, i'm going to try the Falken tires for my 20" wheel set.

There's some concern among forum members about using non "N" rated tires for various reasons that have been discussed over the last few years.

With that being said, I still think the Falken tires are worth giving a chance based on their price & positive reviews.

It's not an apples to apples comparison, but I know a lot of people that have changed to Falken tires on other vehicles (Jeeps, SUVs, Trucks, sedans), and they all say positive things about Falken.

Unfortunately, it will probably be another year before I can give you first hand feedback on the Falkens with the 718.

I wouldn't stress too much about trying them out. I use non "N" rated Goodyear tires on my 18" all season wheel set, and they have worked fine without any issues for the winter months. The max speed rating will be slightly lower for certain tire choices, but based on your original post, it doesn't sound like you plan to exceed 150 mph. :ROFLMAO::LOL::p

I didn't know they were an option, but might try them in the Spring if the reviews are good. I have a set of winter tires, and a set of track tires, so the Falkens will just be used for going around town and to and from the track in the spring/summer/fall, and as a rain tire at the track.

That’s exactly what I’m doing. I went ahead and bought a set of the Falkens. They’ve been fine so far. Haven’t really pushed them hard though. Much quieter than the P-Zeros that were originally on my Cayman.

Since you get your thrills on track, another option would be to put slightly wider, all season tires on (at least that's the case in 19 inch). However, they wouldn't be suitable for track use in the rain.

Any updates after some more time/years w/ the Falken Azenis FK510s? They're $500 less than a set of Continental Extreme Contacts. I'm thinking about trying them on my 718 Boxster T... ready for my 1st replacements...of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. the Conti's are $150 less than the Michelin's (or better yet the Falken's are $650 less than Michelin). Please let me know ASAP!! (If you get this post) since i'm going to be buying in the next week or two. Thank you!!

I just put on a set this Monday, and went slightly wider than oem (245/275). Did a first canyon run, and fairly satisfied. I have no issue handing in a small fraction of handling for half the price of Michelin’s. I’ll post back here with updates every now and then.

Update after 2 days of canyon carving (CA330; Angeles Crest and Forest; CA155; CA33. While the tires are a bit more vocal than the Pirellis, their behavior is very predictable. I'm no expert driver, but I felt confident at all times. The performance (so far) is more than sufficient for my skill level.

I have a 987 Boxster with falken fk510’s 6000miles on them, they are excellent in the dry (even on limits) and amazing in the wet!.

Why is it that everyone wants to get rid of the oem tires asap? I just replaced my oem Pzeros with Pzeros again. The PZ's were very quiet and the handling was excellent. And Pirelli isn't a known cheapie mfgr by any means. Ive read far too many posts where someone changed brands due to a forum poster's claim of excellence/mileage/quietness/etc. and been very disapppointed. If you have PZ's (or any other oem tire), if you like them why not keep them? Grass is always greener I guess. Rant over.

I moved away from Pirellis because they were wearing way too fast. If I need to replace tires so often, I would prefer to do it for $600 less if it only means slightly less well handling.

Fair enough. Its a trade-off as you stated. I guess my point was that folks think a different tire is going to have better handling due to glowing poster reviews, and then find out its a very subjective issue.

Agree, for a lot of us mere mortals, we don't drive to the limit of the cars capabilities 95% of the time anyway. Going all seasons was a bridge too far for me, but these falkens so far are behaving quite nicely. We'll see how they treat me further down the life of the tires.

I don’t like PZ’s. Porsche done a financial deal to put Pirelli tyres on your model. Just like Michelin tyres for my model, it has nothing to do with them been the best tyres.

anyone looking at this thread should realize one thing: these tires might grip better, but they, and most off main brand tires i have and others tried wear horribly. They completely change their grip and wet grip as they wear. michelins can sometimes Grip Better as they wear in wet conditions. I duno about the pirellis, i have them as winter tires and they work extremely well, sotozero iii series is fantastic in every direction and condition dry cold warm wet or older. shrug. most racey tires suck bad without someone noticing it so easily as they wear.
