After years of thinking about it, I finally decided to do it and ordered a Carmine Red 718 last week with a real three pedal manual transmission. Since it is a custom build it will not be delivered until April and this is going to be very trying, in a good way, on my patience. In my mind the 718 Boxter is analogous in appearance to that magnetically gorgeous woman who instantly captures everyone's eyes when she struts into a room. I've had great two seat manual transmission cars continuously since 1974 but this car is clearly orders of magnitude above all but a couple of them in both appearance and/or performance.

Since this is my first Porche I have a lot of questions for which I hope to use the resources this forum answers to help with. The Porche approach is very different in many respects to the what I am accustomed too (BMW) and I can already see what an enjoyable learning experience this is going to be.

@Barryng

Welcome and greetings from over the pond!! congratulations on your purchase, don't worry!!! the time will fly by, take my word on that, I ordered my 718 Boxster on the 5th May and I should be taking delivery on the 23rd November and even though it has been months, it has gone really quickly

What spec did you go for?

This is my spec PJTMYDL9

Welcome to the forum @Barryng. I am a relative newby and have found ppl on here friendly and the topics superbly useful. Viffermike's Soundaktor removal thread is worth bookmarking as is the Rattle and squeak guide in my opinion. Responses to technical questions are answered by the techies amongst us and superbly well-reasoned.
The wait till April has its advantages. You won't have to deal with the winter cold and crud - Oh silly me that's the UK not Florida ;). Carmine red was my favourite colour but it got vetoed by Mrs N. Enjoy the whole experience. Time will (sadly) fly by. You'll be in the Boxter before you know.

On my 5th Cayman...…..you will not be sorry you made the leap. The first 3 were purchased off the lot so, instant gratification. The 2016 was configured/ordered and the wait was 3 months. The recently delivered 2019 was ordered in May and delivery was made end of October- 5 1/2 months. Your wait is about the same. I can tell you that mine delivered one month earlier than the original date. You may find the same happens. The real clock starts ticking when the order locks. And, then, when it enters the body shop (production).

I appreciate the comments from both here and "across the pond". My wife and I were scheduled to visit the other side of the pond three weeks ago but my wife's emergency appendectomy three days before our flight changed our plans. She is fine now and we are going to reschedule to probably March. That made us briefly consider taking delivery in Germany but that quickly started to get too complicated. Also, due to the likely timing, delivery in Atlanta is not practical.

The build code is PKQ37AW6.

My wife and I were undecided on Carmine Red vs Guards Red but decided on Carmine Red - it was a difficult decision as both are really nice. My choice of options etc. were, of course, based on a balance between function, appearance, and my ravenous appetite for gadgets. Things like LCA and LED headlamps are no compromise type safety features, Nav is an indispensable tool I like, and the Sports Chrono appealed to my gadget appetite. I am used to driving a heavier mid 200 HP Z4 and an older Z3 so the base 300 HP engine I think will be fine but I sure wish it was normally aspirated. I also did not opt for Porche Torque Vectoring as I perceive this feature will not activate unless taking some serious turns at high speed. If there is thought that this feature would have a noticeable impact on not doing something stupid street handling I would certainly reconsider. An option I really wanted is an HUD but, according to the dealer, "Porche considers a HUD an unsafe distraction and does not provide it". - WTF?

Ulysse0, I tried to find your build code but disappointingly received a message that only current model years are accepted. Not sure why they would preclude all but the current year which is now 2019.

Ulysse0, I tried to find your build again, got the same message, and then your build popped up. That is a really sharp looking car. We really like the interior selection with the white exterior. We hope you have a lot of years of safe fun driving with that thing.

I ordered my Cayman GTS on August 3rd. They said it would probably be delivered in Jan or Feb of 2018. Last week they said it was ahead of schedule and I should expect it in Dec. Yeah . But I live in Maine . Gonna have to leave it at the dealership till spring. Oh well I'm still excited. Good luck with yours

...Congratulations and hello fellow Mainah!...LOL. Great your build is ahead of schedule. I've got a bit of a wait for mine. Same time next year if I'm lucky (could end up early 2020 depending on when GT4 production begins). Morong Falmouth? I took my business and downpayment down to Strathum, as Morong, oddly didn't seem
interested in aquiring any new clients, so I wouldn't say I had positive experiences with their sole SA. Very satisfied with Strathum and my SA. Keep us up to date on your specs and delivery. Pictures upon delivery please! Hope to eventually see you around sometime. Enjoy!...

Odd I looked on line and told them I wanted a custom order GTS in June and the Porsche sales manager stayed in contact with me as I was waiting to get my Shelby gt 350 that got wrecked back. took 9 months. In August I went in with a friend and told him what I wanted , and what ever dealer would give me the best discount would get my business . He called me and offered 5% off everything before taxes so I went for it. I'm disabled and would rather have the closest place to me. He was great to work with , even told me I can leave it there till spring on the showroom floor, and will help me with the PPF I want. Should be in by Dec. 2018. Racing yellow, gloss black sport design package , gloss black wheels, door handles, spoiler and window trim, Carbon Ceramic Brakes, carbon fiber interior trim, steering wheel, PDK shifter, Door sills, floor mats , with yellow stitching, yellow gauges and sport chrono, Porsche crest arm rest. Bose audio. 105k total. Yes I hope to see you and your car when you get it, I'd love to check out the newest GT4, I'm sure you will love it , hope to talk to you soon

Oh Boy! Was I wrong!

Just got the car Wed afternoon. It is certainly not "clearly orders of magnitude above all but a couple of them in both appearance and/or performance." It is clearly orders of magnitude above all of them, without exception, in both appearance and/or performance.
