I have absolutely no problem with an EV. Need to get a new car for the wife this year and am half-considering a Tesla. Honestly not sure we’re (tech, infrastructure, etc) there yet, realistically probably five years away. I just bought my first Porsche two months ago, as a DD. I know it’s far from the last exciting ICE Porsche we’ll all be able to buy but it definitely feels like it may be one of the last hurrahs in that regard. That said, I genuinely expect that my next DD will be an EV (probably not a Porsche though bc $$$, and bc I, at least for now, don’t think of Porsche as an EV company, but who knows), with my 718GTS becoming a second car.

So just like @DriveInHouston, I say bring on the innovation. We have nothing to fear. Yes the cars are different, they don’t make any noise, they’re effortless to drive, they’re much easier to maintain, etc, etc; and that’s good, and frankly what 99% of drivers want and need. All good as long as those who want it can still get an occasional new or keep their beautiful old ICE sports car — to enjoy at their leisure!

Our dealer has this one and my initial impression...

Visually Smaller than I thought it would be, excellent seating room and quality dripping from every part. The only part of the design I struggle with are the headlights, but only in photos? In person it flows and just works. The view from the rear reminded me of a 718 & 911 love child.

I found the wheels interesting in that they are spider style wheels with only 5 openings, other than that the wheel is solid aluminum with slightly raised machined faces and painted to represent a spider wheel

About the best thing can say about it is, it looks better than a Panamera.
I think the opposite. The Panamera looks miles better. The front of the Taycan looks hideous. Those vertical slats on the left and right of the lights make it lokos like it is crying. And the bumper with its upturned center looks like it is grimacing in pain.

The looks alone would prevent me from getting this car.

That’s funny, I thought it looked like some anime charter.

it does much better in person though!

I have to agree with this. Those vertical doodads are ugly and its the same styling feature that made the rear of the recent Corvettes so very ugly in my eyes. I also do not like the use of the word "Turbo" for a car that has no turbo charger. I am 100% certain my negative opinions about this car (being silent and no real range also contribute) will not have one iota of effect on anything or anyone in the universe but I still felt like voicing them. Thank you, I feel better now.

There is no arguing about the performance of this car (except for range) but it is just not a car I would lust for.

Hmm. Haven’t read much about this from places like Cody, WY, or Horsefly, B.C.

I doubt 99% of drivers want, nor could they even use, a $150k+ car with 200 mi range.

No **** the price of the car is out of line with every-day-joe's abilities; **** they're out of line with my financial abilities. Hence I mentioned considering a Tesla for my wife, and even that's not exactly what a typical middle of the road american buys.

Tesla's are okay, not on par for quality vs cost. I like how they list their prices as "with potential savings" That savings is in fuel costs spread out over 6 years.
This is all true!

Also true that my wife doesn't really know much about cars and consequently doesn't really care much what she drives -- well that's not exactly true, she wants a luxury sedan, and also now she's heard interesting things about Teslas (between you and I, because they're kind of "in" / "chic" right now) -- lets just say that I have zero worry that she will be reading my comments on this forum, or any other car forum for that matter. On the other hand, I am potentially much more excited about getting a Tesla into our garage than say a Lexus :)

I haven't done a deep dive on Tesla's pricing. I knew they included the fed tax rebate in their pricing, but was not aware that they included potential fuel savings in the price as well. I am however well aware that their quality level, both interior and build quality are far behind what a similar costing car should provide. I also personally think they look (well, the forum will definitely * block * the word I have in mind :)
