My new 2018 718 Boxster will be arriving at the dealership any minute now, so I need to make a decision; do I comply with Maryland law and have the dealer drill into her front and place a mount for the mandated license tag, or do I go ‘outlaw’?!!
I’ve seen the offset mounts that screw into the tow hole and other rigged setups.
I’m not looking for more reasons to attract law enforcement’s attention (I’ve already opted for the Guards Red).
Please share knowledge, opinions,and recommendations.
Thank you.

I'm also in Maryland and had the same concern. Last month I bought a 2017 718 Cayman S. I bought the Platypus License Mount from CravenSpeed. It says that it won't alarm the PDC sensors but it does on mine. I just shut them off. Other than that, it's well made and gets the job done.

I have the Platypus and did a test fit that indicated no issues with the sensors. I just received my plates yesterday and will install today. That will be the true test. I posted a photo of the fit.

I vote outlaw and a distant second is Platypus. In fact, my Platypus holder has been boxed upon for about a year and has never seen the light of day.
I second going outlaw. The platypus and the tow hook setup look cockeyed. I've been thinking about just drilling the holes and getting it over with. The factory mount in the center doesn't look too bad. I had a Sto N Sho on my ScatPac and it was flimsy and scraped all the time. One day while looking at the car in the garage I said to heck with it and drilled the bumper and put the factory mount on. Look on the bright side, Mounting the factory holder protects that small section of bumper from rock and bug chips. 0:)

...dare I say your response was refreshing! Years ago I had the "outlaw" mentality (being born/raised in a one plate State) because I wasn't going to "drill holes" or "ruin the looks" etc, etc...all the typical reasons. Well, to each their own. I've spent 32 years in "two plate States", between Maryland and Maine, and I got over it. The factory brackets adapt quite well on every vehicle I've disfigured...LOL...and agree they don't look bad. And yes, I will be disfiguring my upcoming GT4. The only reason I wouldn't would be if it impeded cooling etc. Also, if most States are like Maine, you often have a variety of plate backgrounds to choose from, such as our Lobster plates. Couple this with a unique vanity plate, such as I typically do and it just works. Some of these no drill mounts etc ., look like heck anyway IMO and the cheaper ones are down right dangerous at highway speeds.....BUT, as your mileage may vary, so will opinions!?

I just recently ordered my base Cayman mt recently. Will the dealer drill holes on the front bumper for the license plates? Didn't even cross my mind. But this sounds horrible. Can I opt for them to not do so? Thanks

I’m assuming that ultra strong weatherproof double sided adhesive tape is not allowed where you are?

It’s the perfect solution if allowed, also is it possible to mount below the normal location?

...of course you can. Most of our regional dealers do not install unless cleared and/or requested by the buyer. But realize, they aren't the one's being pulled over, if going "outlaw"...?

I would talk to your SA, and send an e-mail to confirm your desires regarding the front plate. At my dealership in Texas they don't mount a front plate holder unless you want one.

I just keep a set of these in the glove box with the front plate, and attach the plate when parking on the street. At least in California, most traffic and highway patrol officers don't care about front plates, and only the city parking monitors issue "fix it" citations.

I've also heard good things about these brackets; at least the drilled holes are not visible.
