I recently received my '23 BB and immediately upon delivery I purchased the frunk and trunk liners for protection. Now that I've had the car a month and I have had time to look over the entire vehicle learning all of its nuances I have settled on the frunk space. One of the many intended uses of this vehicle is for trips to San Luis Obispo County where there are over 325 wineries. My wife and I spend many weekends there every year. In addition to the wineries there is over 100 miles of coastline, cool weather, craft breweries, distilleries, and all manner of shops that my wife loves.

The Boxster promised a lot of space for bags in the front and an ample amount of space in the back. I've watched many videos, most not very good, but one or two that aptly showed the approximate amount of cargo space. I had fully planned to get our carry-on type bags into the frunk without any issues. I took my suitcase out to the Boxster before I loaded any clothing into it and I discovered that the frunk liner takes away a significant amount of bag space. The bag I was using measures 26"x17" or 66x43cm and these measurements include the soft handles and the wheels. The bag did not fit all the way in the frunk with the liner in place.

With the frunk liner in place the usable space is lessened more than I would have expected. The usable space with the liner in place is about 24"x13" or 61x33cm at the lowest part of the frunk because the liner is sloped inward at the bottom. Space for a second bag is more because the second bag will sit above the liner so usable space becomes about 28.5"x19.5" or 72x50cm. You also lose a bit of usable height because the liner sits above the bottom of the frunk so you only have about 16" or 40cm of usable height.

Without the frunk liner in place the lower portion of the frunk measures 28"x18" or 71x45cm and the upper half of the frunk measures 28.5"x19.5" or 72x50cm, and the total usable height of the frunk appears to be about 18" or 45cm. Maybe a little more since I can't close it and see where the bags are hitting. I measured the height right at the front edge of the frunk where the rubber molding is at.

My measurements may be a tad off because I rounded up or down depending on the numbers after the decimal point. So the bottom line is that with the plastic frunk liner in place you will have to find a smaller carry-on type bag and use a similar sized second bag or you can find a slightly larger second bag. But at this point I think when it comes time to travel I'll be pulling the liner out of the frunk so I can get more usable space for the two bags.

A relatively large difference and why I chose not to purchase any liners (that and the CEO is much happier when she can also take along the kitchen sink). That said, I did install frunk & trunk lid protectors, as they really aren't space eaters.

Thanks for the post. I’ve anticipated this issue. My thinking is that the liner with its handles would be useful most of the time, like for grocery runs where you can just grab the handles and transport it’s contents into the house. How much value that provides is debatable I guess. But like you, I would just remove it when packing for a trip.

No pizza shelf for us Boxsters but I really like that trolley bag for the rear trunk. Between a couple carry-ons and that trolley bag we could be gone for a while.

One maker of aluminum bags was touting how the certain damage to the bag would tell others about your travels. One flight anywhere is going to have so much damage on the bag it would be unusable after just a few flights so I definitely am passing on those.

While the bags may be small, the unique compression packing system allows for tons of clothing! We've used these suitcases for 7 and 10 day trips.

First bag in the frunk, you can see it fits in the liner perfectly.

Second bag in on top, plenty of clearance room! Plus, there's space for a backpack or purse on the side.

I was thinking to absolutely maximise the space, a few soft bags should be used
instead of cases.
Then I started looking into the Porsche ones on offer, which led me onto all sorts of stuff,then
I discovered that the new 911 has a smaller frunk than the 718, which really confused me for a minute
or two.

I've ordered front and rear liners - don't want anything spilling.
Then I will try and get some made to measure cases but remove the front liner.

Their website talks about a US and an EU version. Do you know if the size you get is dependent upon where you're ordering from? When I go to the webpage it doesn't ask if you want the US or EU version?

And the version you and your wife bought are the Carry-On Closet Medium, correct?

Wife and I got the "Plus" size, which is accepted by US airlines. Based on what I'm seeing, it looks like my European friends will want the normal version.

You can only fit 2 carry ons with 20cm in height not the 23cm ones or you get the 40cm "double carry on" from Porsche Design resp. Rimowa which is also 40cm in height but has slightly more space than 2 seperate ones.

Agree the front boot liner eats space, I use it when I have to carry boots and tack for the horse, as it is easy to wash out. But otherwise it stays out.
I don't have anything to protect the boot as I never carry anything that might leak or mess the lining.
Overall the car has a lot of usable luggage space, especially if you use soft bags.
