You have to drive as you had an egg under your foot in Sport, the gas response are much quicker.
Cruise at a certain speed in sport and switch over to Normal and you will get point.

That's a bit of a how long is a piece of string question. It all rather depends on how heavy your foot is & also what kind of roads you're driving on. The other thing is many of the contributors on this forum seem to follow the same pattern as I do & spend nearly all of their driving time in sport & only use normal on a long run. I have a Boxster S with PDK & so it'll be a slightly heavier on gas than a similarly equipped base. However if your (base) car is manual that will probably even things out a little as the PDK has an extra gear. On a long motorway run I can easily see low to mid 30's mpg (even had a high 30's run) if the car is left in normal & I'm not too excessive with my right foot. Around here though I never drive in anything other than sport. Normal just isn't particularly suited to the majority of our local roads which are narrow & twisting with very short straights. As a result I tend to average around 25 mpg or so, though I can achieve a little more if I don't drive too exuberantly, but also very very easily get a lot less. Don't hold me to this, but I seem to recall from way back one of our more enthusiastic track drivers (possibly Ironman) getting his car down to 6mpg or so.................. I'm tagging this on, as a quick troll through some old posts revealed it was in fact Nineball that got his MPG down to under 7mpg.

I have a PDK transmission in this car. After seeing so many positive You Tube videos I thought for me it was the way to go. I really like the sound of the car in Sport Mode and just wanted to know where most people spend there time driving. Also I wanted to know the effect on gas mileage by doing so. I really do not have a heavy foot on the gas. I guess I we figure it out as I get more miles on this car.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but like I was alluding to at the beginning of my post, it's pretty much an impossible question to answer. In any case you didn't buy a 718 because you were worried about economy, right? The scope for what economy you return is literally huge, but should you really need to return good mpg on the odd occasion (lack of fuel stations open for instance), it can be done just by exercising a little restraint & selecting normal to keep those revs down. :)

You are exactly right. I did not buy this car for gas mileage even thought the stats are pretty good. Just wanted to have an idea. I really am enjoying the whole Porsche Experience driving this car around town. As time goes on I will developed a better total feel for this car. I appreciate your response!

Bearing in mind of course these poor Americans only get 80% of an imperial gallon in a US gallon. And a pint of beer is only 16 fluid ounces more importantly. Given that their gas is less than half our price, I guess mpg is not such an issue. Ah well, we'll all be owning self-driven battery cars with speed governors soon.

Let's put it this way, for the amount of performance on offer I personally think the overall economy is excellent & I have absolutely no complaints. In times past I've experienced similar economy in cars that barely had enough guts to pull the skin off of a rice pudding & felt like they covered 0-60 in the same time it took to boil a kettle. ;)

I inadvertently forgot to take into account the difference between Imperial & US gallons in my comment, but as Peter pointed out, fuel costs are ridiculously cheap in the U.S compared to ours anyway.
Just to give you an idea of what some of us are paying.
Currently the cheapest Super unleaded reasonably local to myself is £1.35 per litre.
That's £1.35 x 4.546 = £6.13 per imperial gallon & £1.35 x 3.8 = £ 5.13 per U.S gallon.
At todays exchange rate that's U.S $6.67 cents per U.S Gallon. :(

I'm getting around 25 to 30 miles per gallon (U.S. gallon) in my base 2.0 PDK Cayman.

I tend to drive gently, partly because the car can easily keep up with normal traffic without much effort.

By the way, my car has the standard (smaller) fuel tank which has a modest range in my view.

My fuel costs (Premium unleaded) in the northeast USA are about US $3.00 per U.S. gallon.

Our "regular" (non-premium) unleaded is about US $2.60 per U.S. gallon.

Don't rub it in, I'm trying to eat a bowl of lunchtime soup & the bowl is re-filling with my tears quicker than I can eat it. :crying:

On the other hand, you have a better selection of interesting classic cars. I'm always searching e-Bay UK for classics.
I currently own a Lotus 7, an Austin A35 and several MGs.

The Porsche is just a diversion. ;)
