Hi There!

Recently ordered my first ever new car, a 718 boxster S.
I didn't intend on buying a new car or even buying it this year, but with the WTLP tests and car taxes heavily CO2 related in my country I decided to pull the trigger now I still can.
My current car is an 07 BMW 3 series convertible, a great car, brilliant steering feedback, smooth ride and silky smooth straight 6. For its sucessor I wanted a convertible which handled well, had more power and a high degree of useablity. Within budget you just can't get around a 718.
Even without a Porsche badge it's a brilliant value proposition.

Testdrove the base 718 my findings in short

  • Base car is OK on power, but I'd like more, don't think I'll regret the S. My main thought from this was "how did people get around in the previous base cars??"
  • Comfort is good on the base 18" wheels, decided to get the PASM and stick with 19" wheels.
  • Wind insulation top down is OK, not large BMW good, but more than acceptable.
  • Handling: great and feels like a large gokart. It's quite safe and front end limited, could use more grip at the front. (Didn't drive it hard/fast for long, mostly wanted to test the daily-driving stuff)
  • The PDK is the best automatic I've ever driven.
  • The car had adaptive steering, didn't like it, made it feel like a dull modern sedan at low speeds.
  • 2 way sport + seats are ok
  • Soundtrack, not bad, but not overly inspiring. On the other hand, it matches the speed you're going.
  • Fuel consumption was surprising good, avg 9 liter/100km.

My initial idea was to go for a GT silver with agate or brown leather, but after seeing different cars I decided to go for rhodium silver with graphite blue interior.

Important options:

  • -adaptive cruise control
  • -PTV
  • -PASM
  • -PDK
  • -heated and ventilated seats
  • -painted rollhoops
  • -Bose
  • -Connect
  • -white instrument cluster
  • -DAB+
  • -2 way sport+
  • -standard 19" wheels
  • -some small must-have options

Didn't go for the sport chrono. The dashboard looks better without it and the seconds constantly tick away when you're driving, personally I don't want to see that when driving.

Hoping to get my car next month.

Anyhow, I'm registered here to have a quick hotline if any problems or quick questions would arise.:D

The Sport Chrono is a great option. it gives you the Sport Response button and 3 modes (normal, Sport, Sport+) with a fourth individual mode that you can program yourself .

I find I adjust mine frequently. depending on the roads.

Congrads. Note that you can turn the sport chrono off if you don't like it running all the time.

The dealer I initially visited told me otherwise...

Got the car (will post some pictures when I find the time to take a few). I find myself driving in normal 99% of the time so far. (Non sport-chrono cars also get the Sport mode.)
I do believe the sport-chrono has benefits, but for me it also has downsides (mainly looks). It's a lot of money for an option I'm not convinced about. :)
