A message something like "Possible R gear fault - OK to keep driving" showed up on my instrument panel and the PDK would not upshift when it should. I tried switching the lever to Manual and back to Automatic but that didn't fix the problem. I didn't think to try the paddles. Instead, I pulled into a vacant lot and turned the ignition off and back on, and everything worked just fine after that. Apparently it was some electrical glitch.
I don't recall exactly what I was doing at the time. I think maybe I had just started to accelerate after coming up behind someone starting up from a stoplight. The only unusual thing about that drive was this. When I shift into Drive I usually hear the button on top of the lever click into place, and if it doesn't click I pull/jiggle the lever until it does. Yesterday when I started driving I didn't do that. I always thought that click was just a mechanical lockout. But maybe it also affects a position switch that wasn't making good contact and the resulting noise on the circuit got the control unit confused. But that's pure conjecture.
Have any of you ever experienced anything like this?
