Great Weekend in the Sierra’s !
Saturday morning with blue sky and cool morning temps in the air we pointed the Cayman GTS towards the snowcapped mountains to the West and raced onto I -80 towards Tahoe where we then turned north on 89 towards Sierraville and on to Downieville , a 91 mile run each way from Reno that is a must drive in any vehicle but especially in a sportscar and if that Sports car is a Porsche with a mid-engine then it surely should be on the top ten runs for Porsche enthusiasts. Early to mid - May is the sweet spot for this run ! Roads are cleared of debris from winter and prior to summer Vacationists and extreme heat.

With wonderful pine filled scent in the air , streams rushing by at full run off parallel to the roadside , a spirited drive through this country is rewarding. At Sierraville we turn left on 49 towards Downieville onto a straight away amidst the scenic open alpine valley that is lush green from all of the moisture. We reach the end of the open valley and begin to ascend from the valley towards the Sierra buttes and take in some majestic snowcapped views that look like Switzerland as we soak up the numerous curves and twisted roads for which this GTS was built for … Mid-Engine bliss is experienced in Every curve .. with scenery that is just as dramatic. The Yuba
River plunges downhill towards Downieville as do we and the GTS .

I highly encourage this route for you fellow GTS fans if you find yourself in the vicinity !
While in route we stopped at waterfall gushing out of the mtn side from snow runoff etc.
The cool temp and sound of the fall was very refreshing roadside break ...

I'm on the western slope of the Sierras and routinely run those roads. My wife and I were going to make a run from Fresno up to Copperopolis, Jamestown, and Murphy's last week but she got sick so we postponed. She's better now but we already have plans for a coastal vacation this weekend. I'd love to make run over to Tahoe via Fwy 99 and then over Hwy 88 through Kirkwood or 49 or something like that just to be different.

I haven't decided yet. My wife and I have gone in the past and it's a very short drive for me which makes it easier than staying because they usually jack up the prices of the hotels and they fill up pretty quick. I'll post if I decide to go.
I should be in LA in October, any recommendations for roads to drive?

I have been over the Angeles Crest Highway, probably do it again. Fantastic road, and you always see some great cars on it.

Done a few roads off the PCH towards Malibu, but really like to do some more.

Cheers.
