Greetings,
I’ve always been a fan of 2 seater mid-engine sports cars. My first was in ‘74, a Fiat X1/9. Great handling, no power, and poor reliability. But I loved it. Since then, I’ve owned other sportscars including a Fiat Spider 2000 (crappy), a Pontiac Fiero (don’t laugh - also crappy), a ‘93 Mazda RX7, and a 2000 BMW M Roadster. All my life, I’d coveted a Porsche, but despite my rising income the ratio between price and what I could afford didn’t seem to change much.
Finally in 2007 my day came and I bought a new Cayman S. Loved that car. While quite content, I kept an eye on new car developments, both Porsche and others. We recently traded my wife’s car for a loaded Macan S. I was jealous of several features - PDK, Chrono, Sports Exhaust, Bluetooth, etc. Last Saturday, I’d decided that if I were ever to trade in the Cayman, it would be on a new Cayman. I was on the Porsche site configuring my ideal Cayman. About 1 hour later, I see my local Porsche dealer is advertising nearly that exact car! Fate.

Congrats! I too owned a '93 RX7. Loved that car! Sorry I ever sold it (kids came along). I also ordered my car with the Black/Bordeaux all leather interior. Is it as nice as it looks? My car doesn't arrive until next month.

My RX7 was my first sports car with higher performance. Bought it on a Saturday. On Monday morning I called my insurance agent to setup the insurance. On Monday afternoon, I was showing off and crashed, totaling the car. The responding police officer asked how many miles were on the car. 120. “You don’t get the record”, he replied. On Tuesday, I called my insurance agent again. He said, “no problem, we’ll get the insurance setup”. I explained - no, I need to talk to you about *collecting* the insurance. A week later I called the Mazda dealer, and said “you remember that RX7 I bought a week ago? I need to do it again. But this time, I want one that lasts longer.” Loved the car, but didn’t like the lack of low end torque - pretty anemic until the turbos spooled up around 3500 RPM. Also, whenever the g-forces built up, I’d flash back to that crash and remember how careless and stupid I’d been.

I love the black/Bordeaux. I could probably do without the carbon fiber bits, but they’re OK. They blend in with the black OK. Given the choice, I would have added the crest in the headrests, but that’s not a deal breaker.

I did get the crest in the headrests. I also got the brushed aluminum package. The waiting is the hardest part.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us! Your GTS is absolutely Beautiful!!
I am also waiting for my Carrara White Cayman GTS. I should get it in few days. The waiting was the hardest part. You jumped that part... a CGTS in stock... that's rare...good for you!

Congrats and enjoy it as much as you can.

Though, my friend, the wait is part of the experience, and your car was built not close to your specifications but exactly to your specifications. That experience, in of itself, is priceless.

If my math is correct that works out to about 6.36 USD/gallon, is that correct? If so that is quite high; see your concern.
That is why we don't all have V8s.

A friend used to have a Hummer. 9 miles to the gallon at most. He had to sell it as he was spending more on petrol than on his mortgage every month. and he very rarely used it.

My son commented that the black accents on white is a “stormtrooper “ paint scheme.
The good thing about this is that it can’t hit anything. ?
...being a Star Wars, Star Trek, Sci Fi fan myself, I can fully appreciate the comparison. Think how cool it would be to pull up at a Star Wars convention in this Cayman wearing Stormtroopers armor! Yes, the empire rewards its troopers very well indeed!

...Reliability, electrical issues etc., aside, my brother and I also idolized the Fiat X1/9 as kids. Regarding the Pontiac Fiero, don't knock yourself too hard. I feel the Fiero's last version was actually a decent car IMO. But your new Porsche is perhaps one of the finest, if not the finest, sports cars in the world, regardless of price or marque! Enjoy!

Nice blaster reference. And –*absolutely! There are a number of black accents on the 718. Add that a Boxster would also have the black soft top. So my pick for my future one is plain white. (And then add the Texas black and white license plate.)
