I have 2018 manual GTS and noticed that in 3rd gear and above, when crossing at exactly 2K rpm, I hear a noticeable grinding noise like gears lightly tapping against each other or tire rubbing on the wheel well. Obviously checked wheel well and nothing.

Anyone else notice this? If so what transmission do you have? How long have you driven like this if you accepted it as normal?

I just bought this car two weeks ago and in the process of trying to return it but the sales guy is saying this is not an option. May just contact the GM there and Porsche HQ.

I have a 2019 base Cayman with manual transmission. I am rarely near 2K RPMs because I wind out gears and I drive out in the country with few opportunities to get that low in the range in any gear but the upper gears (generally). Whenever I am in a situation where I'm distracted by circumstances and I do get too low in a gear (even 5th or 6th) and I try to accelerate aggressively, I get a noise something like you describe that I always have considered a warning that I need to downshift if I'm going to accelerate. It happened more when I was learning the car, but now it is very rare. My recommendation is to downshift as soon as you start hearing it. It's kind of Pavlovian, and I think it is intentional.

Almost as if porsche is trying to say "you need to drive this thing like it was engineered to be driven; ring it out!".
