I went to check what I could fetch for my car on Vroom.com (a site that makes offers to buy cars strictly over the internet) and when I typed in my VIN it said that I had a Cayman S rather than a GTS. The quote also came back a little lower than I may have hoped for. I’m just wondering if maybe there’s some VIN confusion or what the deal may be. Any similar situations? I’m not really looking to sell but I figured I may as well see what I could theoretically get.

Yeah, that’s the issue alright. It’s a shame it doesn’t seem that it’s ever gonna get cleared up at this point. That thread mentions KBB, I used Vroom to detect the issue. I wonder who’s database is master list of this sort of stuff. I doubt it’s a coincidence that both company’s have it wrong individually.

VIN Analytics shows my car correctly as a GTS. However, they also provide a link to another site to get a full history report on the VIN and it comes up as an S. Carfax also shows it as an S - something I actually missed when making the purchase. So obviously there is one central database that these sites access for their reports and the database is incorrect. Do I hear class action lawsuit? lol

I had a similar issue with my car's VIN history report. The previous owner claimed no accidents, but the VIN report showed one according to this decoder. I got in touch with the dealership where the service work was done. According to them, no significant repairs were performed due to the accident. It turned out that the report was incorrect due to a typo on their end. Your dealership or other relevant sources may be able to provide further clarification.

GTS models appear with VIN starting as
WP0AD (Cayman)
WP0CD (Boxster) with D representing the GTS 4.0 engine
