Hi, I'm planning to upgrade my CS with H&R springs...
I'm evaluating
H&R SPORT SPRINGS FOR PORSCHE 718 AND 981 MODELS
(SKU: 28865-1)

What are your thoughts and recommendations...

OK, you asked ...

First, you have conflicting info in your subject line. PASM lowers the car 10mm. SPASM lowers it 20mm. Which do you have?
Next: If H&R Sport springs differ in rate and stiffness at all compared to OEM, it will throw the PASM system off. Don't let the bit in the description about 'For models with PASM' fool you.
Finally: H&R Sport springs historically are very hit-and-miss in terms of both quality and application. Honestly, I wouldn't trust them on a Porsche. On a Honda? Maybe. Not on a Porsche.

Bottom line: I'd hardly call the springs an 'upgrade'. If you're going to mess with predictive suspension, you need to consider full-on, fully adjustable coilovers at a minimum. Anything less than that is asking for trouble, especially with a car lowered up to 45mm (nearly two inches!!!).

Is it not firm enough with too much body roll, even in the Sport+ setting? I'd imagined that SPASM in Sport+ would be a track suspension and going beyond that would be for racing only. I'd think the upgrade for someone who takes tracking or racing that seriously would be replacing the bushings

I don't notice Sport vs Sport+ making any difference to PASM-S or PASM. In fact, don't really notice any difference between PASM switched on in normal, sport or sport +. It firms things up the same on all three modes. What does seem to make a difference is the road surface as the variable valve damping in PASM adapts to the conditions, as well as driving style. Sport + makes a big difference with throttle response and gear changes.

Like Mike has mentioned there is a concern with running after market springs with PASM as maybe the springs are not calibrated to the PASM system. Maybe they don't need to be, maybe they do. I've also read progressive springs can be an issue with PASM as it is expecting a more linear spring rate.

Regardless it seems to me that lowering springs like H&R and Techart are a cosmetic lowering modification rather than performance orientated. With that said I haven't read of any issues occurring or complaints from people who have made the change. I think the Suncoast track car is using H&R sport.

Also I don't believe there are any 718/982 specific aftermarket suspension options. Rather all kits are sourced from the 981 generation without modification.

Another thing to consider, does Porsche recalibrate PASM for the slightly lower PASM-S? I don't think it does.

I've been debating between PASM or no PASM because I'm worried about the 1cm drop causing contact when entering driveways. For you guys with the 2cm SPASM and considering lowering springs, is clearance never an issue? Do you simply avoid certain driveways?

I think depending on the height and angle of the driveways, I currently have HR springs on my S and no body issues as far as scrapes.. just the bumper flaps(right infront of the wheels) makes most of the contact with the ground/pavements

you should be fine with 10mm - 20mm drop with PASM / SPASM, but always try to enter any driveways in an angular fashion to be safe

I have SPASM (as well SportDesign package - so a touch longer overhang at front) and not had any issues with clearance. I don't have a steep driveway, but we do have some fairly vicious traffic calming measures here in the UK, often referred to as speed bumps / humps (see uk speed bumps), and even these don't trouble the car (at appropriate speed).

Here's hard body roll with regular PASM hitting the apex through a 90 degree. In the next frame my wing is up meaning I was doing more than 78 mph so I had to be doing more than 60 at this moment. FYI.
