I've had a couple of loud hard shifts into 2nd gear. It seems that it's happened when I'm in Normal mode, full Auto and going slowly in a parking lot. The car shifts into 2nd gear at a low RPM and makes that loud hard shift.

Why does the car do this? Shouldn't it be waiting for a higher RPM before doing this, as it does in Sport or Sport Plus?

Is there a workaround besides using the paddles in Normal when driving really slowly or just running in Sport or Sport Plus? I'd rather not care anyone coming out of Whole Foods with sounding like I'm going to barrel through the parking lot.

By the way, thank you all for the help with the questions I've been having. I love the car and want to understand it and do right by it.

My base sometimes shifts hard going from 2-1, but not often. Not too concerned since others in previous threads have noted such and inquiries to Porsche by others have thus far indicated that its "normal". If you're referring to the sound of PSE in Sport mode being problematic in public places, the PSE can be individually deselected while in Sport, which I do sometimes. That way you still have the higher rpm shift points and sport suspension without the additional exhaust notes.

I thought that might be the case. Mine does it going from 1-2, and today it happened in Sport mode, but the RPM were around 1000. That's not a point I was taught to shift at (when I was taught how to drive a stick). My SLK didn't do this, so it kind of stands out at the moment.

I don't have PSE, I'm just being "nice". What the heck, it's a Porsche - I won't worry about it. I get flack for other things :)

That sure doesn't sound right. I've had the 2-1 clunk at very low speeds but nothing like what you have described, even when 'cruising' around parking lots. I recommend a dealer phone call, and a visit (if you can reproduce it).

Warm or cold car?
I think it's been cold, but I'm going to test it out a little more and see if it ever happens when warm. I'm still working on being able to reproduce it, so I don't get to a dealer and look like a hypocondriac.
