They have what seems to be newly released coilovers that are much more affordable than their KW counterpart. I don't know much about BC racing, but it seems to me this option would probably be better than lowering spring on a stock shock?

I'm doing a lot of track, and im worried about possible rubbing or performance loss with springs.

Hey Fred,
I would strongly not recommend this product for your 718. BC is pretty common in the stance crowd, we get some VW and Subarus in the shop with these. If all you care about is slamming your car and don't care about handling.. well they may work for you. I know this sounds harsh but 25 years of motorsports experience has me a little jaded about cheap suspension. If all you want to do is lower your car a bit get some H&R springs and call it a day. At least you'll still have good shocks.

If you're doing a lot of track days check out some Ohlins:

We offer off the shelf Road and Track kits as well as our custom valved and sprung Track Packages.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you for your answer Joshua, very appreciated. That was my concern; I do care about handling, almost more than comfort. Which is why I thought those coilovers might be a decent alternative to only springs, I have already decided (not happily) to not slam the car on springs for handling reasons.

I'm not comfortable paying 4-5k CAD for Ohlins currently, so I guess I'll wait.

While you're here; it seems like almost every manufacturer lists the coilovers good for both the 981 and the 718. It seems to suggest they are all interchangeable, is that the case? Could I buy used 981 coilovers for my base 718?

Cheers

Looks like they only have the BR series available for the 718 - the bottom tier.

If that product shares fitment with the 987 / 981 chassis, you can be sure it's not completely dialed in for the 718 alone. You only have 30 clicks of compression/rebound in one dial - which is inferior as far as performance and quality goes compared to other name brands. Porsche set a high bar engineering a great suspension for the 718 and as I'm sure you know it can be very easy to muck up handling through aftermarket suspension components of inferior quality and potentially even worse - incorrect setup.

Pros for coilovers vs springs in your case is that with independently adjustable height and preload of coilovers you can corner balance the car.

The true counterpart to KW are ST coilovers, a non-stainless steel body variant of the KW are is cheaper. Bilstein B16 is another option for you. Ohlins are indeed the finest, and yes the price is high, but you're not buying suspension to track a Civic or drift car are you! :)

The 987-718 (non-gt4) all share the same suspension besides top mounts. The weights and balances are very similar. The suspension travel is identical. Our custom track packages use pretty much the same spring rates and valving across these platforms.

Thank you both for your answers, very enlightening. Considering these factors and my budget, would it make more sense for me to purchase a set of 987/981 coilovers and have an appropriate top mount fitted? ST coilovers are 1100 for the 987, would I lose much handling/capabilities with these compared to more expensive KWs made for the 718, at 3k+?

Personally I wouldn't do the Bilsteins, STs or KWs. They all have the wrong springs rates (for serious use) and no independent ride height vs spring pre-load. If you are that budget constrained enjoy the stock suspension for a while, maybe some lowering springs, and get some proper coilovers when the time is right.

fwiw my '17 cayman s was almost perfectly balanced when i had it on the scales last december at daytona, and that was after a serious years worth of track events. as i recall there was less than a 8lb difference between all 4 corners.

Sorry for replying to an old post. So I have a set of MCS from a 987, that means these would fit a 981 with new top hats? The hub is the same?

Thanks!

They should work fine and I bet MCS will sell you the appropriate mounting hardware.

hi Joshua👋I saw your answers on the forum and I see that you are professional
can you give me some advice?I have a porsche boxster gts 4.0 and I would like to make it 10 mm lower and more manageable
what would you like to use for this?I don't think I need coilover since I don't go to the track
Are the H&R springs good option for me?or is it possible to do something else?
