Just found this forum after purchasing my new 718 GTS. Previous to that, had a 911.1 C2S, so one might assume a backward step.

I read all the comments droning on about the loss of 2 cylinders and sound, but I stuck by my thoughts a bought a new 718 GTS. I think it looks amazing, probably better than my 911, the GTS interior is something special and I don't feel the loss of power on the car for the style of driving I do, so all in all I'm more than satisfied with the new car.

Looking forward to discovering how everyone is enjoying their cars and critique on this model.

PS When can I upload pictures?

Nope, not a backwards step if you want the best sports car platform that Porsche offers. Although most of the other drivers on the road assume that the Boxster/Cayman line is a Porsche for people that can't afford a 911, those of us who had both model lines know the truth. I came from a 991.1 Turbo S to my 718 BS and don't miss the 991 at all. Other than ego, no reason for a 560hp street car here in NJ. Only reason I might move back to a 911 some day is to go for rides with my wife and grandson, when he gets older.

And as others have attested to, your car will develop an ever-improving sound as the miles go on.

Enjoy your terrific new car!

I originally wanted Carmine but the brake calipers are guards, so I went to the show room and luckily enough there was a Guards Red 911 GTS. Had a good look around and I loved it. The Guards Red is one of Ferdinand Porsche classic colours so I think it will keep for a while.

I just came to the 718 family after trading in my 997.2 C2S. Loved that car for the size, nimbleness and driver engagement (6 speed). But the miles were piling up and wanted something newer to replace it, and found the 718 Cayman to stack up pretty well in terms of size and performance. The new 911s are beautiful cars, but are getting a bit large for my tastes and the prices are getting large too!

Yet to do much driving yet due to the crappy weather we have been having here in the NE US but definitely look forward to seeing what my new Cayman can do!
