My wife and I just purchased our very first Porsche, a 2017 718 Cayman, black mini-flake paint. Signed up on this site to learn as much as possible about our new ride. Our 718 came with factory sport exhaust w/black tips and is an amazing vehicle to drive. The Cayman S was too much for us to cover at this time.

We live in San Diego, California and have already tried out the twisty roads in the Laguna and Cuyamaca Mountains. Car feels as though it's on rails through any corner. I've never driven anything close to this level of handeling.

Thank you,
R&J

Welcome. There is nothing wrong with a Base. I have a 2019 Cayman Base(several options) on order for a November delivery. I have owned an 08 Cayman S, Cayman R, 2014 Cayman Base, currently drive a 2016 Cayman Base (fairly heavily optioned). When I test drove a 2018 Base and S, I decided that as a DD and compared to my 2016 it was more than sufficient in power et al. Happiness is in the eye of the beholder. If you and your wife are happy...............then it was a great choice.

I'm new as well. I got really with my 2018 base, I found one in Naples that had only 1160 miles on it from the first owner whose wife didn't like the ride. I took these two pictures to prove to my wife that I could do our Sam's shopping in the Cayman:)

Congratulations! Great looking car but for a moment I got a little concerned when I spied an empty grocery wagon........possibilities......ouch.

The base 2.0 runs higher boost and has higher specific output than the 2.5. In fact it matches the Carrera GTS at 150 hp/liter. Like the 2.5, its high broad torque plateau makes for a flattened top-end of the horsepower curve, meaning higher average-to-peak-hp ratio (and faster real-world speed) than n/a engines of equivalent peak hp. I think L'il Beast applies to both the 2.0 and 2.5 engines.

Congratulations! I am looking to purchase a used 2017 718 as well (still undecided on whether I want Boxster or Cayman). Would you mind sharing the cost and the option of your vehicle? Cheers.

Thanks to all who welcomed us!

We really appreciate all of your comments. I want to send some photos and I have additional info re: our Cayman that might be of intrest to the Forum.

At the risk of being ripped here I have to admit I'm not sure how to get my Photos attached so I can share them with you guys. In my career I've solved some fairly complex electrical and electronic issues/problems, many that others could not find. Such as on power mains, control circuits and many other shop support and critical systems. HOWEVER, I am greatly computer challenged!

If anyone could explain how I might get my photos from my phone and attach them here that would be a great help so that we can participate in the Forum more effectively.

Thank you again to everyone,
R&J

Happy to help!

I don't believe there's a way to upload/embed photos on your smartphone directly to the forum. The only possible way I am aware of would be through Tapatalk, which is a third-party forum-aggregating app, and I believe 718Forum.com has had some use-ability issues on it (I personally don't use it).

You'll probably need to move your photos from the phone to a computer, either via email or a cloud-based file-transfer service such as Dropbox. From there, you can do one of two things:
1) Add photos as 'attachments' to individual posts (there are some disadvantages to this, but it is easier for members)
or
2) (Preferred) Embed photos that are 'hosted' on a third-party website (examples: Flickr, imgur ... even Facebook works) as a URL that leads directly to the image itself.

Images in posts by members that have used method 1) will appear as 'Attachments' at the bottom of a post with a small thumbnail image representing each image. To view the full-size version of each image, a member must 'click' on the image.

Images in posts by members that have used method 2) will appear inside the post itself as full-size images that are automatically scaled to fit the post window's width.

Please PM me if I need to explain anything else; happy to help. Thanks, and welcome!

Hello fellow 718 enthusiasts,

Thanks to viffermike I finally can post a shot of our 2017 Cayman. To the folks that welcomed us to the site I just wanted to mention a couple things about the car.

We found this used Cayman north of San Diego where we live. It was located several miles north from us so we went to check it out. Local Porsche Dealerships did not have any used 2017 Caymans in stock. This Cayman was not loaded but did have the Sport Exhaust with twin pipes in black, 19" Boxter S wheels (which look very good on this model) and a few other nice options.

I have some information about this Porsche which many members my find useful. This Cayman is an awesome machine but there is an anomaly which I did not anticipate. As my Forum name indicates, this was my first Porsche and I hope no one else here experiences what I have.

Will provide details in another post

Thanks again!
