Hello,

When I hit about 75mph and above in my cayman I can hear a sort of high pitched wind noise type sound from the rear. It's not a constant linear sound, it sort of flutters and varies. I'm 95% sure it's wind generated noise. Perhaps from the rear hatch somewhere. It's not overly loud, but is certainly audible.

Anyone else pick up on this?

That would be the speed that the spoiler deploys, yes?

BTW, earlier than 2019, the spoiler would auto-raise at 120km/h or 75 mph as noted in the owners manual online, however, my 2019 Cayman wing actually raises at 125 km/h which is 78 mph, as noted in the Good to Know app. Strange, but true.

At least in my model trim (CS) there is a button in the center console to raise the wing and keep it up at any speed. You may wish to test for noise with the wing up all the time and see whether you get the same results. Whistling starting earlier or not.

It may be your rear window / hatch is not seated flush when closed.
The closing of the hatch can be adjusted by turning the plastic stops at the bottom of each corner facing you when you open it. They screw in and out to adjust the fit.
May only need half a turn.

Not quite true: I have a first-run 2018, and mine goes up at 80 mph -- or, likely, the 78-mph figure with fresh tires (speedometer readings go up as tires wear down).

I've not heard of a mid-model-run trigger speed change, at least for the U.S. It could very well be there are market- and/or model-dependent differences involves with the two published figures -- or just a good ol' typo.

in any case ... my Cayman has no whistling that I've been able to discern at that speed.

Yep, you are probably right. I was basing my assumption on something the service manager said, but he's been in these cars for 18 years, so who knows when in his experience that 75mph was the raising point. He did tell me to check the manual, but we were out on the road so the app was more convenient at the moment, and it was right.

I have the same problem. How did you fix it?

Do your cars have PPF (paint protective film) ? It can be related to PPF on your mirror housings. If the film does not go into the small gutter on top of the mirror housing this can cause a whistling noise just behind your head.

Thanks for reply. I don’t have PPF. I’m sure the wind noise is coming from the rear spoiler because I pulled the fuse to deactivate the spoiler and the noise was gone
