Approximately how long does it take if you used the Porsche Configurator and spec'd out and ordered a new GTS today from the United States to get it delivered?

It varies. This that can effect delivery time include:
1) Did the factory close down for one of their breaks during your car's production
2) How longs does it wait to get on the ship once completed
3) How long does the ship take to make the crossing - this is usually about 2 weeks to Rhode Island, another week to Texas, and then another two weeks or so to west coast.
4) How long does it wait to get past customs (a day to several weeks).
5) How long does it take to get to your dealer.

My 718CS took about four and a half months from when I placed the order to when it got delivered.

The shortest time I've heard about is 3 months. The longest was about 8 months. But those are exceptions.

The first step is finding an available allocation

Assuming your dealer has an allocation, 4-5 months from the date you place the order seems to be the average.

I ordered my 2018 718BS in January. I was told very limited allocation through out the country on the S model, more allocation of the GTS and base. My expected arrival date in NY is end of June. Dealer advised only three Boxster S allocations for the entire country through the next few months. Hard to believe, but thats what dealer informed me.

Guys, let's not confuse the OP with base/S/GTS distinctions here. He asked about a GTS order. Let's stick to GTS orders:
@lajoiedp is correct: The average time between actual order at a dealership and physical delivery into your hands is 4-5 months. For example: This time of year, if you sat down with an SA with a build (represented by a code) at a dealership and placed an order in an allocation slot for April -- which should still be available in places -- you'll likely have your car by August, and possibly July with a GTS since Porsche N.A. is prioritizing those orders somewhat.

The key is having an allocation slot that's all yours, with your name on it, at a dealer. You need to do that first. That is what fundamentally determines build date, build schedule, and delivery schedule.

If you move beyond May, however, you're likely looking at delivery in the fall because the Porsche plant where most 718s are built, Zuffenhausen, shuts down for more than a month in mid-July. The secondary plant at Osnabruck shuts down for a time as well during the same time.

Like I said: Get an allocation. That's the key.

And getting an allocation for a CS was HARD. I ended up getting help from a high level Porsche executive that my company works with. He pulled strings. That being said, I have an early may build supposedly for July delivery (fingers crossed).

The only faster delivery is if your dealer has ordered a car for their yard and the build hasn't yet been locked--or even better, it's just what you would have ordered.

You must get your name on it though.

Viffer is correct! It depends if the dealer you went to has an allocation, but right now it's more difficult to order an S or base model. Allocations for those 2 models are limited at best. The fact that you're looking for a GTS, your chances are good. That seems to be the focus for Porsche right now. They seem to be prioritising GTS's over all the others since it's the latest model. 4-5 months seems to be the consensus... It's WELL worth the wait! Good luck with your allocation. If you find you're running into a problem finding an allocation for a GTS, private message me and I will help you find one...

Wow. I ordered my base Boxster in late November and was initially given a May delivery, but my SA got us an allocation for late Feb. The car actually arrived in mid Feb. So, just under three months from order to delivery...
