I have the base interior. Want to find all the leather parts to apply protection lotion.

The seats are partial leather, which I take to mean vinyl.

The smooth leather on website is listed as the following: steering wheel, gear shifter (and boot), door handles, door armrest and panel, and console lid. The console lid seems plastic though, and I can't convince myself the door armrest and panels are leather.

Does anyone have more refined information? Thanks in advance.

I think partial leather seats means the facings are leather but the back and sides are probably vinyl

I had the partial leather seats on my 981 and have full leather interior on the 982. If I recall correctly, only part of the seats were leather on the 981 and everything else was faux-leather material. There was no stitching anywhere except on the seats. With the full leather the following are leather and stitching is present everywhere: seats, door panels, upper and lower dash including glove box, instrument panel cover, steering wheel center, console sides, console lid, and probably more I am forgetting.

I've got the "full leather" Chalk/Black, and as far as I'm concerned, every surface in the interior is plastic. The "leather" on the seats is covered with a thin layer of plastic. The soft plastic is plastic. Vinyl is plastic.

There seems to be a rise in car care products, whether a cleaner, conditioner, or protectant, designed and marketed for everything in the interior - plastic, vinyl, leather, let's include rubber - because they are all essentially, in fact, plastic.

I would gladly get leather care products if I thought they would do anything for me that the "all-in-one" cleaners and conditioners don't, but I just don't believe that's the case.

There is some luxury aura to being able to claim all leather. I did the alcantara/full leather (but not GTS interior) upgrade myself. That said, the "leather" dash, console, door panels, etc. seem to be a fairly low grade composite leather material. I would have strongly considered the natural leather upgrade if it had been available in black (without paying for custom color). It is always challenging to decide on interior care products for that type of leather. The good news, is I also expect that type of leather to wear well. My 2012 Acura TL has what I consider higher quality leather on the seats and you definitely see creases and some discoloration.

Look at the photo I posted. There is stitching right next to the tear in the plastic veneer.
Hello Duegatti - you are right - the correct reply should be:

stitched with contrasting seam (german "Kontrastnaht") -> leather
other -> composite leather (= plastic)

at least this is the information i had from my Porsche dealer.
Additionally leather can be treated with varnish (paint/lacquer) for protection.

Most motor vehicle leather, with VERY FEW exceptions, has a polyurethane coating. The more expensive the leather the better the base leather and the thinner the coating, resulting in a softer, more pliable surface.

Put a drop of water on the leather. If it soaks in immediately it is uncoated leather and you must clean and protect with leather products only--and do it often. It will stain. If the water stays on the surface then products should be designed for coated leather and it will need cleaning and protecting much less often.

Coated on not, a hard scrub is definitely not applicable. Soft natural bristle brushes and clean cotton rags only. If you wouldn't scrub your skin with it then it can easily tear up the surface of decent leather.

And here I was thinking that the term leather only applied to the "pure" animal skin with only dyes and preservatives.
Luckily I did not spec full leather just to rub my butt in pure cowskin, but because I like the look of all the surfaces covered in "leather" much better than the moulded rubber/plastic panels.

I was getting the Black & Red combo interior. The full leather option puts beautiful red stitching all around and overall looks v/ elegant. The standard interior w/ black and red has really oddly chosen elements of color. If I were spec'ing all black (which I could never do), I probably would have been fine w/ the standard.

I have the standard black interior on my 2017 Cayman 2.0L. I like the pure sportiness of it. Like the base 718, it is pure sports car to me--no distractions. That said, I have upgraded the interior a bit with some leather. I added the leather Porsche crest console lid and leather (European without warning sticker) leather sun visors. I am thinking of adding Porsche red contrast seat belts for a splash of color. My daily driver is a BMW X2 with a black Dakota leather interior. The seats are leather in the BMW (use the smell test to determine leather from faux leather), but I found the leather seating surfaces of my Porsche Cayman to be a better grade than the BMW. Mostly, I like the way my 718 Cayman drives--driver engagement is much more important than the amount of leather covered surfaces. The soft-touch non-leathr material used in the Porsche interior is pretty nice stuff and looks great and wears well.

I have the typical GTS interior with Alcantara seats but door panels and dash that are black leather with red stitching. I don't need to clean the leather yet, but would like to give it some protection as it is getting plenty of direct sunlight.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a leather protectant to use on the leather dash/door panels? I don't want anything overly shiny or that'll cause off-gassing. I used Zymol leather treatment in the past; is that still a good choice or are there newer, better options?

This style of leather is not what I'm used to, so any input appreciated.

That's what I'm trying to say, and why I don't agree with post #9. My whole point is, there is no real leather in my car, with its "full leather" Chalk/Black. Just more fake leather, which is plastic on its surface.

Now, maybe when you buy some fancy Pinnacle leather products from Autogeek, they already are intended for fake leather. I don't know. But I firmly believe that any products that are suitable for plastic and "vinyl" (which would include the alleged polyurethane surface of my seats) are just fine for the entire interior.

My 2006 Murano has better leather.

The console lid is plastic on the base model and leather on the S and above.
Really? Even if you get full leather interior on the base model?

From the 718 book:

"The 'S' makes itself felt in the interior, too. The leather detailing featured in the base models has been extended. In addition to the steering wheel rim, gear lever/selector and inlay on the door handles, leather also lines the door armrests and the lid of the centre console storage compartment"

According to the configurator on the base model the leather interior adds:

"As standard interior but with the following items also upholstered in leather: dashboard upper section including instrument shroud, steering wheel airbag module, dashboard lower section including glove compartment cover, door panel upper sections, door centre panels, centre console side sections, rear side panels, seat bases, rear side of front seat backrests (not in conjunction with order no. P01, P03, P05, P07), seat centres rear, seat bolsters rear, transmission tunnel in rear. All leather items (including standard items) in smooth-finish leather. Door panel trim strips in Galvano Silver. A- and B-pillars additionally in Alcantara. 911 Carrera Cabriolet models: A-pillar trims and windscreen cowl surround additionally in smooth-finish leather."

While the centre console storage compartment is not specifically mentioned, when adding this option to the configurator the image does change the centre console lid to reflect leather.

You can see the difference in the photos I posted above. The console cover in the 2018 Cayman with the "full leather" package has stitching and is leather. The cover in the 2014 Cayman with the "partial leather" package does not have the stitching and is not leather. I realize one is a 982 and the other a 981 but the key is that the 2018 is leather.
