I bought my car new off the lot and it was 90% of what I was looking for. If I had to do it all over again, I would have wanted black wheels, PSE, and Apple CarPlay. Everything else is great.

I have an agate grey exterior and standard black interior. I chose the black to avoid such a monotonous agate grey beast. In retrospect, I'd take the beast (I know, I could have upgraded the interior but that wasn't in the budget). The faux black vinyl/plastic shows every little smudge and dust particle. I need to wipe down my wife's side after every trip because of the lotions/potions she uses ?

Obviously, this is much like the other threads that have been discussing option preferences but I get it. I bought "off-the-rack". If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have Nav and I would probably want PASM. Everything else is fine. Dual zone climate is not essential but I would take it. I sure could go for a short shifter. Wait, I can still do that

Short shifter was my 1st mod. Took me 45 minutes. Amazing improvement to the driving experience.

I custom ordered mine. Assuming cost is not a factor then I would have added (in order): PASM Sport (I already have sport chrono); LED headlights; Light Design package. That is it.

And I'd like the bucket seats, bbut they are not available for the CS.

I think I am capable of doing that mod myself. I worry about getting it lined up properly and avoiding tearing up the trim pieces taking the console apart (and then getting it put back together properly!)

What is a short shifter? For manual? What does it do? Who sells?

My 718 is a special order base car with few trinkets.

Where can I buy a muffler? Mine is like a babies rattle. I am much too old to need a rattle.

I’d want full black interior maybe with a little red stitching or something. Short shifter sounds good too. LED lights for sure. Standard lights are so bad.

lol. As much as I’d like all black with red interior- not sure it would go well with the exterior color. Lol. Maybe I’d get guards red exterior too. ?

I ordered my 2018 Cayman and specified every option that would allow us to purchase the car within budget. That meant eliminating only two options: 18-way seats with leather back panels and 20" wheels. But since the spouse likes the 14-way seats better and I am fine with them too and the only wheels we could agree on were the Cayman S wheels similar to those we had on the 2014 Cayman, it all worked out fine.

Suncoast sells a shift mechanism from a GT4. Identical in every way to the MT shifter the 718 comes with but 20mm shorter. Puts your hand in a more natural position and makes for shorter / sportier throws.

I actually think I'd pass on the smokers package. Sure I'd have a hole there as a result but at least I could put something there. With the smokers package it's totally unusable. The outlet is even unneeded since there is one 12" away in the armrest.
MOO
My post is coming, but I will be ordering the smoking package again as there is nothing I would put in the cup and more importantly for me I use that 12v outlet for the Ctek charger when the car is parked in the garage, it is the easiest to reach through an open window...

The SSK is the same for the 981 and 718, I installed it into the 981 GTS I had and pulled it out when I sold it, very easy process, the only tricky part is the removal of the console side panels, specifically be careful of the final tabs at the very front, once the side push-in tabs are released you must remove the panel by sliding it back parallel to the console, the front tabs can easily be broken otherwise...

Anyway, this is the part number: 981.424.010.20 (IIRC for reference the stock length shifter is 981.424.010.10)

I have been very fortunate to go through the order process more than once, the thing is each time it is different, unless you order the exact same model, they make different options available or more the case, not available just to mess up your plans... I know this is old news to a 718 owner, but for example on my 981 GTS I could not order the Light Design Package, but it was available on the S for the same year!? Heck on the new 718 Spyder, Platinum Satin Wheels are a cost option, but on the GT4 standard, can't even get a MF Wheel on the GT4 etc... I have found out this, if it is at all possible (financially), order what you want at build time, it is easier and most times cheaper this way, trying to add things later is a real pain and may put others off when it comes time to sell.

So as in the past I have built the next car dozens of times, trying different combinations to get a similar look, checking the option prices and final cost, working things to get want I want (or think I do) and see if I can come in on budget... can you say that when ordering a Porsche?

Regarding the OP's question, I find that I want the same thing each time more or less, with certain things being a no brainer, others like illuminated CF sill plates and easy pass for me, the only option that I want to check every time but because timing has never worked out has been European Delivery! And guess what, this time will be no different! :(

I don’t have any options that I would have ordered differently other than maybe the higher wattage Xenon headlights. I don’t find lights lacking when I drive at night, but curious to experience the difference for $1000.

The options that I have and would still keep are larger gas tank, LCA, Porsche entry, Apple CarPlay, manual transmission, clear taillights on Agate grey color, and yellow seatbelts.

I wouldn't mind trying carbon buckets but not sure how they would be on a long drive.
I will let you know when my car arrives! ?

Seriously, those that I have talked to say if you are of average height and weight they are extremely comfortable, but the caveat is there is no movement in the back to seat angle, not that I care, I never adjust my seats once set...never.

LED headlights with PDLS would have taken the build over budget, but I would have put them in if they were a little less to option. I have good eyesight and the standard bi-xenon are fine, however the LED looks very cool. Dual zone climate control I don't think I really needed but the set/forget nature of that is less fiddly than the basic Aircon.
