I have to admit, those comments kind of irritated me as well. These things are getting 0-60 times in the 3.xx second range depending on options and transmissions. Heck, throw an APR tune on the 2.0 base (366 HP and 334 TQ) and that car becomes a screamer as well. Nothing "chick car" in my opinion about a stylish mid engine convertible with these performance numbers.

It’s obviously about the bottom line. They are willing to sacrifice their core (traditional) markets for the sake id selling more units in China.

Not so much a chick car as a car for the Chinese market, and apparently the young females in China are spoiled due to the ratio of men to women, so why not choose the best sports car on the market if you are a young spoiled Chinese woman .
And the whole idea of making the cars more suitable for the Chinese market is not new, German premium car makers has been making long wheelbase variants of their smaller sedans for China for ages, as rear legroom is a premium in China, Audi A4 and A6 as well as BMW 3 and 5 series are or have been offered with longer wheelbase in China as far as I remember.
And the new larger front grill of the new BMW 7 series which has not received the best welcome in the western world are apparently an attempt to gain popularity in China as they love big powerful front grills.
So we just have to get used to our cars being geared more towards the Chinese marked, but if that means more cars like the 718 Boxster/Cayman, then I am all in
