Hi there,

I am considering purchasing my first Porsche and was able to get it up on a lift yesterday. I was curious if this level of corrosion was normal for the 718 (or any Porsche for that matter) after about a year of ownership?

Thanks!

Here you have some exhaust pics on my car thats a little bit over one year old.
Its my DD and i use it all year around so its going on salted roads in the winter.

There is some dirt that i can wash of, no to little rust exept on the nuts.
My 986 with 172000 miles on the counter have also been used as DD and it looks the same.

Where are you located? Where did you find this car? I have only seen this type of corrosion on cars that are snow/salted roads and 10 year old cars who are parked daily by the ocean.
Or that have been in a flood. That's my bet.

Location is key, OP. That pitting/pockmarking on the transmission casing and the oxidation on the exhaust piping (yet there's none on the header shielding, which appears to be new) are signs of extended submersion.

Anyone else have a more learned opinion than I?

Good thought!
Compare the sleeve that connects the muffler, i have like a pipe on but on figure2 pics it looks as a piece of bent steel acting as a sleeve.
The exhaust tips Always looks awful from underneath.

@figuere2 : Please supply location info of the car in question. We can't help you much beyond expressing puzzlement if we don't have more context.

Thanks, and welcome to the forum!

Buy Fluid Film and spray the rusty parts, except the exhaust. And stay away from brake rotors. The Navy uses this stuff as rust inhibitor. I use it on my Wrangler before every winter. Google “Jeep Fluid Film” and you’ll see tons of info.

My guess would definitely be flood, but it's hard to do more than guess based on pics and just a few of them at that.

In any case something seems off, and OP if it were me I wouldn't proceed without lots more info and a thorough inspection.
