Congratulations!!! to everyone!!! I know this is deviating from the topic a bit, but it would be really interesting to know the stories behind the inspiration, what you did, how you got it, how it feels, and what're your next plans, how the experience was different from what you imagined and so forth!

Well, my best friend (at age 17) was given an MGB by his father (who got it cheap as he was a master car painter at a dealership). We went everywhere in that car and I promised myself that I would have a sports car one day. Dad brought home a Buick Skylark convertible with the 'hot' engine and this confirmed the top down experience for me. My first purchase was a Cortina GT (they were cheap) and this confirmed the sporty performance preference.

Two wives, two houses, two kids, and three university educations kept me away from sports cars for many years.

In 2017 I was thinking about a new car when I looked at the absolutely pristine back seat in my 5 year old Subaru and decided that now was the time for a two-seater.

I did lots of looking—old MGBs, new Subarus, new Mazdas, and the desire increased but wasn't satisfied. A classic Ferrari Dino was out of my price range. A friend in the gym mentioned that he often stopped to admire the Porsches on his way home and I went for a look. The Cayman was beautiful and had the lines that drew me in, but the Boxster had the roof down option.

I asked about a test drive and the salesman said, "I was just about to suggest that, hang on while I get the keys."

On startup the exhaust sounded right. We headed up the motorway (up a good steep grade and through a long tunnel) to the twisties in the hills and then back around and down on the twisties. When we got back I said "How much?" and then spent weeks on the options list. The rest is history.

I've never had as much fun and satisfaction from a car and that still applies almost 4 years later. As I'm retired, most of my driving is mainly for pleasure. I'm happy to drive for an hour or more to get olive oil, have a take-away lunch or picnic, or buy some pecan wood for my BBQ smoker, or just go anywhere in the hills that start 5 minutes from home.

Then they hooked me into being a moderator and here I am—still writing and reading as well as driving.

Thank you so much for sharing that! That is an amazing and inspirational story! We love driving as well and can't believe we're getting the opportunity, thank God! To be honest, my love for driving didn't really start until 2015 when we moved to the United States because in Pakistan, you can't really buy cars as easily and you have to save up for the complete cash payment, so it would've taken us a very long time we would've still only been able to buy a Corolla since that is considered a luxury car.

Moving to the United States, my first car was a RAV4, and I used to take care of it a lot, but then once I got the hang of changing cars and getting leases and financing, bad decisions were made as I was naïve send between the ages of 24 and 28 between 2015 and 2019. That being said, due to familial obligations and studies, we couldn't dream of just getting a two seater car as bigger and better was the only option, and something with 5-7 seats was more preferable.

In all fairness, I had a tough time getting a job as an immigrant, and had to work in three places at once starting at 3 AM at Dunkin' Donuts and ending at 11 PM with Uber with tutoring in between and studies as well. I still remember admiring all of the fancy cars such as Infiniti's, Mercedes, BMW, etc. when I used to drive my Corolla and when I went to traded in for a Camry, the salesman would not give the time of day. I then took it to Honda for a new card, but the same thing happened, chevy, then a Kia, then Ford, then an Acura, until I had visited nine dealerships in two days with no luck. Surprisingly, I still wanted to go and try again and then on the third day I got an email from an Infiniti dealership that wanted to buy our car, and thankfully that is how I ended up with a Q 50, which was a huge surprise because I thought getting to a level like that would still require a lot of years of investment, but thank God for that!

After we moved to Colorado, and thankfully got better jobs, I started looking into Porsche in the fall of 2019 and used to go to the dealership often before they opened the new one in Littleton. Talking with the SA, we weren't sure what to buy and kept checking out and changing our decision between the Macan, Panamera, and Cayenne. After my mother passed away in September last year due to cancer, we finally decided to get a two seater as she was happy while still alive that we would one day get a sports car, so, in a way, this is to remember her even more.

We then pursued the dream and decided upon the Boxster in January and put in an order demand in February, and are still waiting for the allocation, so hoping for the best and will update as soon as we get more news!

Hmm, it took me only 45 years to buy my second Porsche after my first. The first was a '63 912. It replaced a '69 Fiat 124 Spyder. The Porsche may have been a better car but compared to the Fiat it was boring. After a year a local Porsche specialty mechanic offered me what I had paid for it. So I replaced it with a new Fiat X-1/9. And 44 years after that I finally bought another mid-engine sport car! A Porsche coupe just like the 912, still a 4-cylinder too, but so much more exciting!

Be careful. Acquiring Porsches is habit forming. I got my first Porsche back in the 70's when I was in my 20's. I'm 75 now and my 10th Porsche is on order and due in December.
Habit forming? Unquestionably a gateway drug...now I'm hooked on track.

Yep, got mine at 62 after 40 years of driving reps barges over 1 million miles up and down Britlandcestershire's conjested motorway network. Had to pull the lump sum from my pension to fund it. Been working part time since I was 16 and full time after college at 21

45 years here… always been a car guy, knowing a lot more then I ever actually owned. Was in a position to purchase outright and the pandemic + my wife were the triggers that finally convinced me.

I’m a saver, financially conservative, so this is a deviation of that mindset, but I’ve had almost zero regret making this decision… and, especially now, at $64k USD before taxes, I feel like I got a steal and 100% happy with how the build came out based on what I wanted to spend.

I do sometimes find myself a little embarrassed with the buy, again more my mindset/personality, plus in my profession I work/lead quite a few minimum wage employees, but I’m getting more and more ok with that.

I love my car. Haha.
