Edited: the first eight posts here have addressed the decorum for references to other forums. When I get a little time, I'll share my thoughts observations in or after a ninth post. Many thanks.

I've been a member of forums which do not allow explicit naming of other forums, this to keep the monkeys from throwing their poop.

I'm currently reading FAQ's and Terms of Use here, but if anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it.

May I, we, specifically make mention of things appearing on other forums, while naming those forums?

Many thanks.

DriveInHouston,

Thank you for the imminent and conclusive ruling.

JakiChan,

Please let me await the imminent and conclusive ruling. Let me just mention, in passing, a propos of nothing, that you are a smart guy.

Sorry about the imminence not being as imminent... (we have an international Moderating Team and Texas is a big state too...:ROFLMAO: ).

We want to disseminate knowledge/information and do not discriminate based on where it came from.

A short reference with a quote like

"I read on Planet9..."

is ok.

Also a direct link with a quick description

"I read this on Pokawanna News, about the upcoming F10T 718 Porsche EV"

Please avoid importing controversy, flame wars or flame war sources from another forums . We don't need the overtime pay that bad!...:ROFLMAO:

Oh, no apologies necessary. I appreciate reasoned and sober policy.

As we are in the early stages of these rules, shall we have some test cases?

In this particular thread, I was hoping to share my impressions of the overall timbre of the sister forums, and how they may have changed recently.

How would you feel about that?

Kinda new to these forums so forgive my likely ignorance re: the dynamics here but why is that relevant to anything remotely related to Porsche Caymans/Boxsters?

Isn't this a place created for enthusiasts to share their affinity and experiences for the cars as opposed to Social Media catfights, either real or perceived?

I agree with this. This type of a thread would bring no value and is not relevant to this forum.

You don't need anyone's permission to write your opinions.

Keep them on the right side of politeness and comity and you'll do fine! :)
As simple as that. We don't (and we shouldn't) censor free speech.

As forum members, we shouldn't be baited by trolls and participate in flame wars. Then trolling will wither on the vine (I am told).

Seriously, on an unrelated (skiing) forum that I follow (I have been a Mod there) it took two years of bashing a specific troll. He showed a remarkable capacity of being bashed, probably because he enjoyed it. Then, he somehow decided to take some reasonable (not necessary always correct, but reasonable) positions. He didn't last 3 months!... He officially quit being a member on his own!

My point was simply going to be that the phenomenon of the GTS 4.0's impact can be seen in the sister forums as well. I was not going to throw my poop.

It's a shift in culture. This phenomenon is of concern to some very active members here. I share this observation to underscore the power of the phenomenon.

The 718 Forum has historically enjoyed a different culture, which has set a tone for things "relevant to anything remotely related to Porsche Caymans/Boxsters". The GTS 4.0 impact could potentially level the cultures among the different forums, and affect us all.

The moderators - in part because of this thread - have outlined the favored approach going forward, and we have certain tools at our disposal. I'm sorry if you feel that this is of no value; I disagree. I hope were that we can preserve our culture, including the freedoms of new and established members. I trust that we will monitor our progress.

I'd spend a little more time on this post, but I've got to go. Thanks for reading this and thinking about it.

OK, my two cents:
The way two or more forums on the same topic typically co-exist is by acknowledgement and occasional referencing. If something interesting is going on at P9, rennlist, or the like, there should be no issue with someone referencing it, or starting a new thread here about the same issue.

The situation I feel we should avoid is having threads about those other forums on our own forum. Like this one. There is nothing to be gained, and everything to be lost, by maintaining a thread like this.

Think if it this way: If I go to a high school and hang out with people who dig drama class/school plays, and those people like to talk smack about others in school who are in the marching band, how are those folks in marching band who discover they also like drama class supposed to get along with those drama folks after learning about all of that smack talk?

Let's not talk smack, folks. That's not our style. I use a high-school analogy on purpose to demonstrate how juvenile the idea is. We're not juvenile. Are we?

This is part and parcel as to why I recommended in another thread that we welcome potential and actual GTS 4.0 owners the same way we've welcomed everyone else. Let's let that 'timbre' come to us. Let's not talk about that before -- or even if -- it happens. Consistency means people know what to expect. Let's keep the standard we've already set. That's really all we need to do; the rest will take care of itself.
