While browsing for materials for my upcoming PDK service, I came across the following products offered as upgrades for our 718 cars by LN Engineering.

LN Engineering has an overwhelmingly positive reputation with the IMS replacement for the 996 & 997 cars, and I am thinking of installing both of these upgrades on my 718.

Just wanted to share these links with other members to let you all know that these upgrades appear to be available.

I think these upgrades could have the potential to benefit members with ECU tuned cars or members using the 718 for track duty.

Happy Porsching!

I had the upgraded LN Engineering PDK Pan installed on my vehicle when I had my 40,000 mile transmission service performed a few weeks ago.

I've been busy participating in track events over the last month, so I am just now getting these photos uploaded.

Anyways, here's a link to some of the pictures I took of the the PDK Pan before it was installed. I will add a photo of what it looks like mounted on the car next time I get it up on a lift.

I'm not sure there's any noticeable day to day difference between the aluminum pan and the factory standard pan unless you are constantly monitoring the temperature of the Pentosin FFL-3 transmission fluid.

However, I felt this upgrade was a good investment to help promote the longevity of my PDK transmission.

I've heard it costs around $20,000 (US dollars) for a new PDK transmission to be installed which I would like to avoid as long as possible....

any updates or pictures of this installed?
No issues with the aluminum PDK pan so far. Everything has been running great/normal for the last 5,000 miles since I had it installed. I guess only time will tell if this upgrade was a worthwhile investment....

I was going to post some pictures underneath the vehicle with the aluminum PDK pan installed, but I had a "blonde moment" and neglected to remember that there is a cover plate & bracing that pretty much completely obstructs any kind of view of the PDK pan.

You are supposed to get the car's alignment checked every time you remove the cover plate and bracing, so any pictures of the PDK pan underneath the car will probably have to wait until my next PDK service.

Sorry for the mistake on my part. I've been pretty busy with DIY projects & my day job and just wasn't thinking straight. When I did my last oil change and was under the car, I felt like a real dummy for thinking I could get a good picture of the aluminum PDK pan.:sleep::sleep:

I had a shop in Florida do the install for the PDK pan. PM me if you decide to get this upgrade and would like their contact info.

Here's a picture I found online of the underside of the PDK on a 981. Like I said, I decided to have the professionals do this work for me in lieu of DIY, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of the drain locations shown on this photo.

We have several track customers running these without limp mode problems. It's not a guaranteed limp fix but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

I really need to know if the oil pan helps with the turbo limp mode issue. Haven’t found anyone that’s installed it though.

This is the last option for me to try, so confirmation on whether someone had limp mode, then this solved it would be great.

I'm with you @b-grif. I don't know what else to try for my turbo overheating issues. To be honest, I'm not sure I'm willing to drop $2225 even if I knew it fixed the issue. I'm sticking to the idea that Porsche should be the one that fixes this issue. They know it's a problem, but do nothing to resolve it. Why???

I’ll fix it whatever way I can. I don’t care who it’s from. Track time is track time.

Alright everyone, track day 1 of 2 completed with the oil pan. Here's the results.

Did the oil pan completely stop limp mode? No. I did hit parts of laps in two different sessions where it limp moded. However, it did not hit limp mode nearly as much as I had in previous track days. I got 2 complete sessions with no limp mode, and 2 sessions with limp mode toward the end of the session; but it would recover temporarily in between. Previously it would limp mode fairly easily, and stay there. Today was a pretty cold as well, with air intake temperatures fifty degrees below the last track day I got access logs for.

I've got accessport logs for today if anyone is interested.

Update from day #2

So day number 2 went a lot better. I took the Cobb tune off and didn't have any problems for the rest of the day; which was great! I'm going to see what the next track day is like without the tune on through any part of the weekend.

The limp mode issues were much better over the course of the weekend. Lots of limp mode free laps, which I got 0 of before.

I'd definitely recommend the pan, and a 3rd radiator, to anyone that tracks their car. The lower oil temps are going to extend the life of your engine a lot; especially if you don't want to run 0w50.

Update #3. I had a chat with the softronic guys and they’re fairly adamant that their tune will solve this issue. I got one ordered and will be tracking my car on the 30th of January to see if it solves it or not.
Very interested to see how this goes as Softronic plus the billet pan is the setup I was thinking of to be able to run more power. Have heard good things. APR gave me overheating/limp mode issues.

So... this limp mode -or turbo wastegate problem is a software issue??? Do we know what Softronic is doing to get around the problem? I hope they are not bypassing a sensor or allowing something to get much hotter than it should. That being said, I sure hope they have a "safe" solution.

Scott said that they're opening up cooling sooner and running the oil temps about 5 degrees cooler than stock. He mentioned that Porsche has weird gremlins in the software for different models, and listed a bunch of different instances where they've done it before. He said that's why it only affects the S and not the base or the GTS, with basically the same setup. He's a Porsche master tech, and he sounds like he knows what he's doing, and talked often about how they would never do anything unsafe for the cars.

Thanks for sharing that. Any idea if APR is doing something similar?
