@johan is right: The Bose sub (and the Burmester, natch) is basically right behind the engine ignition switch, mounted to the front bulkhead. You can likely see it if you look up into the guts of the dash from the driver-side footwell.

It can't be easy to get to without ripping out the lower dash panels. That said, It's a super-compact ducted unit that does not have a large conical driver. I doubt it weighs much more than 2-3 pounds, at most.

Perhaps ... but the Burmester unit uses the same exact enclosure design, so one of two things happened:
  • Both Bose and Burmester essentially tuned a Porsche-designed enclosure (not likely)
  • Burmester tuned a Bose-designed enclosure (much more likely, especially considering the design, which has Bose hallmarks all over it).

The difference is (assuming this) component quality, not size or sub type -- and in a sub of that type I doubt that, say, a heavier magnet would be beneficial, particularly in this neodymium-ized age.

Correct -- and only in the Bose/Burmester upgrades. The base SPP does not have a dedicated bass driver (I am loathe to call it a sub since, technically, that is not what it is).
