planning on daily driving my car for many years. does anyone have long term experience with alcantara seats, as in more than 50k miles? I do upkeep on my interiors with cleaning and conditioning so don't have problem with maintaining things, but have seen Audi's with alcantara that not only looked matted down but were pilling. Does Porsche alcantara inevitably pill as well?

I ordered by new GTS with Alcantara. I expect it to wear well from my experience of having it on my boat and what I have read from others.

First, Alcantara is a brand. Not all synthetic suede is Alcantara and many microfiber materials are not rated as highly for wear and tear. If it is Alcantara, then it should be Alcantara.

Second, I have used Alcantara on my boat cushions. It is a harsh environment but they have held up well, but it is not a constant rubbing as one gets in a car.The car remains to be seen.

I think pilling of Alcantara is rare but what I have read is that the pilling is reasonably easy to repair when necessary.

Good luck.. I need it also ;)

yeah I know there's different grades of material but when the s4 had it, it was a cost option whereas now it's the cheaper option. I just wanted to get input if it holds up if maintained over 50k miles. my wife's old A4 she had for 70k miles looked rough as she never maintained the leather at all, whereas my previous cars besides the bolsters looked fine, so I know a little bit of maintainance can make a big difference. if it looks ratty and pills no matter what that'll be a deal breaker since I plan on keeping it for at least 10 years and drive it daily.

I had a '95 M3 with cloth seats option. Alcantara bolsters and motorsport cloth inserts....Alcantara was light/medium grey. It held up better than leather.

I had the car for 11 years. It went to more track days than I can count and spent a lot of time in dusty, dirty areas. I wasn't always sparkly clean on the 300+ mile drives home either. All I ever had to do was brush it off with a cloth or brush. Seriously, it never wore and it never stained. I ate snacks in the car too...nothing. I did use Scotchguard on the seats the first week I got the car. Never re-applied. Parked it in the garage with windows down. I used to flip the back seats down and put tires in there. There were tire marks on the plastic backs of the seats, but they cleaned up to about 95% too. I sold the car at a great price with a lot of goodies on it. It had really been driven hard. New owner had a few problems, but got it up to snuff and, I'm sure, had as much fun with it as I did. It looked near new when I sold it.

Alcantara rocks, but I don't like it on steering wheels or shifters...if it's my car. If it's someone else's, heck, I love it!
