Made a Discovery!!

Since I took delivery of the car last summer I've wondered what the little green LED in the bottom of the interior mirror signified. Sometimes it was on, other times off.

I gave up and started reading the manual.
I discovered it is the "on/off" indicator for the auto dipping mirrors and that there is a tiny switch next to it. It seems that it is possible to turn the auto dipping function on and off, though I cannot see why that is needed. I've had lots of cars with auto dip before and none of them had. an on/off switch, let alone a warning light!

Has anyone else discovered this functionality and do you actually make use of it?

Noticed it, Got it, do not use it tbh.
our Mercs also had it and never switched it either.
must be a reason for the ability I would have thought but none spring to mind 😎
it will also disable the auto-dimming feature as well (if you have that equipment)

I suppose that if you don't need the auto-dip feature to avoid curbs and instead need to see more of what's near the side of the car that the back up camera doesn't catch...

its a means to disable that feature temporarily w/o having to go into the Vehicle Settings menu

That would be useful, but what I am trying to figure out is if I can dip it manually. It looks like I can't. I also went the manual that showed a way to twist something but mine just has the LED. Auto dipping for me is just one of those non-problems that were fixed. It's just not hard to set it to dip at night and regular at daytime and there is a lag in autodipping that I don't like. The manua PDF l I saw was for a 2021 and mine is 2022, so I will pull out the paper copy and try to figure it out. Even if I could turn dip on and leave it on that would be helpful. Thanks for sharing your discovery, it was something I have been thinking about for a bit. Luckily I don't drive much at night in the Cayman. On my BMW the auto dip leaked over my shift knob and boot. I replaced it with a manual dip one and it is the greatest thing ever. 100% reliable. I also noticed the the Cayman manual warning about leaking fluid from the auto dip mirror too. Anyway, thanks again for posting this. (y)

select right side mirror (for LHD vehicles) and adjust mirror for dipping down

then (if you have memory pkg) use it to retrieve your settings and mirror will go back to the stored setting for the mirror

From Google: "It's the automatic dimming switch for the interior and exterior rear view mirrors, and should normally be left in the on position, i.e. with the green light lit. If you also have the privacy glass option, then the effect of the dimming function is hardly noticeable."

the privacy glass is on the SUVs - but similarly if one has darker window tint the sensor won't pick up headlights from behind as readily

If you don’t have memory package, is auto-dip of the right side mirror unavailable?

power mirrors are standard equipment (not to be confused with power folding, which is optional) - so the auto-dip is included, its a selectable setting on the car

I will have to take a look when I get my car back from PPF. I have premium pack but 2-way manual seats (so no memory). I would really like the auto-dip when in reverse. Will check car and manual….

EDIT: out of luck. Memory pack only. Darn.
