I want my 2017 718 to stay in SPORT. I am ready to buy the module but the install videos I have found must not be for a 718 since it shows buttons in the center part. The videos are of manual transmission cars. I have PDK. The unit is on the pricy side at $200. Since the newer 718's are how I want mine to work I think there must be an upgrade from Porsche but my dealer said there isn't. Is there a video that show how to install it in a PDK car?

Hope I am not stating the obvious, but can’t you just press the sport button just before you turn on the ignition. It should become second nature after a while like putting your seatbelt on. It will certainly save you some money and avoid anyone messing with the electrics

I presume you are thinking of the T-Design memory module.

It should work with a 718, the caveat is that if you have sport crono package there will not be a button for sport mode in the centre console, it will be on the steering wheel.
That means that the memory module will not work for sport mode with a sport crono package.
If no sport crono is fitted there will be a sport button in the center console as showed in the video.

I don't have Sport Chrono. Even my Stingray stays in the mode I put it in until I put it in another mode. The new 718's stay in the mode you leave it in. Since I own 3 other brands of cars with no issues I guess I'll print out a pre flight check off sheet for the Porsche.

The T-Design memory module works perfectly with the 718. Super easy to install. It retains the last status of all the buttons on the center console: Sport, Auto-Start, etc. It does NOT work with the Sport Chrono Selector Wheel.

Being basically lazy, it was one of the first mods to my 718S. It saves me two tedious button pushes on each engine start: Sport "On" and Auto-Start "Off".

How do you push-button deactivate Auto Start/Stop without Sport Chrono? Is there a discrete button for it on the center console?

On my 2017 718 the start/stop is on the right side. I have 7 cars and the only one that doesn't stay in mode is PORSCHE. Does the T Module come with instructions? Do you tape the box to the front (gear lever) side or back (ash tray) side? It gets very hot hear near Las Vegas so I don't think tape would work well.

Here's a video from T-Design of the 718 install. About a 10 minute job, if you take a coffee break.

TBH I would buy one of these as I hate the stop/start feature and sometimes forget to disable it.
However for me, their price point is ridiculous, that little box costs a few dollars to make.

You can buy cheaper units that shorts the contacts of the button for the start stop button, but you would have to connect it directly to the inside of the button as the wires from the control panel on the Porsche carries only a digital signal (CAN bus?).
I have one of these installed directly to the wiring in my '17 VW Golf GTI as I also hate the start stop feature (https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Start-...RVICE-MODE-Start-Stop-SSA-memory/322352078637).
But as the T-design unit plugs into the wiring and does its magic with the digital signals in the wires development costs were very likely higher.
And as the number of potential customers for this Porsche specific unit is a lot lower than for a universal unit, it is only fair that the cost is higher.
I know for sure I will be getting one of the T-design units once I take delivery of my 718.

I looked at the T-Design module and when I had my center console disassembled, I started examining the center console button module. I figured how hard could it be?... I'll attach some photos of the circuit board.

For the wiring:
red/yellow is power (left kick panel fuse box, Row C, fuse 1)
brown is chassis ground
purple/green = (VIO/GRN) connects to A/C Control Unit, pin labeled "LIN DATA VEHICLE" (Local Interconnect Network) The Car Hacker?s Handbook and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_Interconnect_Network

I figured I'd breadboard up a LIN bus transceiver along with a bus sniffer logic analyzer to see the actions of each button, then wire up and program a microcontroller to replay my desired actions as a man in the middle interconnected device. https://www.microchip.com/design-centers/lin

Or instead of spending many hours of my time on this project, I could just pay the $200 for the T-Design Module and get it installed in <30 minutes...
:nerd: ;)

(FWIW, I paid more for the Mods4Cars SmartTop module and installed it this past weekend; best mod ever for Boxster owners!)
