just adding the brief comments I posted to TireRack Consumer Reviews for the PS4S:

Replaced the OEM Yokohama Advans which are my basis for comparison. The Advans in combination with the 718 S gave me the most handling confidence and responsiveness (at the highest speeds) I've experienced over the course of owning five Porsches and a Ferrari, and driving all on the same favorite stretch of 'sport driving test' road. So the bar was set really high, but I feel these Michelins are noticeably better. Along with the new tires I went from 19"OEM Porsche wheels to 20" OZ Racing rims (about 3-4 lbs. lighter at each corner) so the tire profile also went from 40 to 35. And while I can't isolate the impact of the new rubber alone, my sense is that all 3 factors -- wheel weight, tire profile, and the tire itself -- can be felt contributing to enhanced performance.

Good to know -- but this completely blew up any direct comparative usefulness between the Advans and the PS4Ss by the Plus-1 move to lighter 20-inch rims.

This was really interesting. Thanks for posting.
Some years back I found that on my MX-5 (for non-track, aggressive twisty road driving) I came to prefer the Continental Extreme Contact Sports over the PS4. (Plus, they saved a bit of cash.) Just wondering if anyone has ever put the continentals on their Porsche, how they worked out.

I opted for those this go-round on my 718 mainly because a redesign of the ECSs in late 2016 corrected the tire's greatest weakness: a relatively flexible sidewall.

I've posted about the differences between the ECSs and the Yoko Advans that came on my car -- which, it should be noted, barely lasted 8K miles -- in other threads. In a nutshell: Far superior wet traction (the main reason I opted for them), considerably quieter rolling noise, comparable dry traction, slightly decreased road and turn-in feel, slightly more predictable overall behavior. Jury's out, or course, on longevity, but I've got nearly 5K miles on them (3.2K of which was during a multi-day road trip running around Colorado) and they appear to be wearing considerably better than the Advans.

When the time comes I'll be installing PS4Ss on the car next. Chances are the longer wear they claim to have will basically cancel out the price hike between them and the ECSs.

Yeah, I think ideally you want the Cup 2's for the track and the 4 S for the road in case it rains, unless it is dry all the time then Cup 2's for both. :)

But then would the poor wet weather performance of the Cup 2's compared with the 4 S really be noticeable for road or mountain driving? Are they really that bad in the wet?
