Mileage.....

So, I'm using my Cayman to go to the shops, see mates, enjoy, rinse and repeat. There's some places I don't take it (Supermarket car parks fill me with dread)

And I'm becoming more aware of the mileage. I have access to another car that costs a fraction of the Cayman to run.

The odo is gently nudging 3.8k but I'm just wondering what sorts of mileages are you guys at? I know when the sun's out it draws me like a magnet to drive it.

I also know come September it will won't see much use until the following April / May.

Be interested in hearing about your usage.

Cheers

Good afternoon,
I am averaging 3k ish per year And doing Exactly the same as you usage wise.
mainly the shorter trips, and a few longer ones at about every 2 months.
I am on a pcp with the car at I think 10k miles per year which when looking deeper into this, I am actually 9k miles under what vw finance are then expecting/presuming As at this month.
I do intend, certainly at the moment keeping this car, I love it so much but keeping the mileage low-ish I think a good thing For me anyway and then general lowering of any wear and tear which may end up expensive.
mainly though, these cars are meant to be driven and not garage queens of course and as you say the weather now getting much better in UK to really enjoy it, roadworks, traffic, bloody hs2 and pot holes aside, I intend to enjoy as much as I can.

I have had mine 15 months and at 8000 miles. I drive it quite a bit, mostly long drives to cars and coffee and I purposely buy takeout far away from home so I have a nice long drive to pick it up. One thing that I think about that makes me worry less about adding miles, is that eventually it will be harder to find gasoline, or ICE repair shops and there will be more laws to keep ICE cars out of downtown areas or some cities, so eventually it will be harder to own an ICE car so there is no point to save the miles.....enjoy it while you can. First it's diesels kept out of some areas, next it will be ICE. Anyway, that helps put some perspective for me. Maybe it helps you?

I hear what you're saying but it's probably going to be a while until ICE cars are legislated off the roads completely (in the UK at least).

Way too much revenue coming in via road tax, fuel duty etc. I'm sure the day will come when ICE cars are a bizarre sight on the road (a bit like classic cars now) but it's a really long way off.

I was trying to get my break-in miles done as quickly as possible just to get them done. I will drive the Box whenever I can because it's cheaper to drive than my Ram 2500 diesel. But my wife and I also go a lot of places in her Macan. I/We won't be driving the Box much in the winter months if it is raining but here in California it doesn't rain much so it'll still get driven. I can see me adding about 5-7K mile per year, maybe a few more than that. We make it over to a place called the Central Coast at least once per month and that's a 300 mile round trip plus whatever driving we do there. I bought it to drive it so whatever miles I add are fine with me.
Almost 9 months in, I'm at 4500 miles. I did front-load that a bit because I was driving a lot more than usual so I could get past the run-in period. Still, I figure i'll average around 5,000 miles or so per year. I do some pleasure drives and I also commute to work once or twice a week if the weather's good and the traffic is light. I'm not too concerned. I had planned to keep the car 10+ years so that would still put me at relatively low-ish miles for the duration of my ownership.

Absolutely, but nothing stopping those taxes continuing, only to be joined by ULEZ, pay per mile, pay per gCO2 etc. etc.

You will be able to play but be prepared to PAY (a lot) to play……..

Buying a drivers car, and then being afraid to drive it makes no sense to me. I cover about 8k a year in mine, being in the UK the bulk of these miles are covered during spring/summer. But I would use it in winter, albeit not at much.

I am not likely to keep the car forever, so as long as it does not go crazy high I will just drive and enjoy it.

I do about 12k a year in the Cayman. I don't see the logic in buying a nice car and not using it. The car likes bering used too :)

I’m doing around 8k/year, just under 12k now and took delivery in 12/21. I use it mainly for daily work commutes and the occasional fun outing… most short errand runs done in the SUV mainly for fear of tight parking, not knowing pavement situation, etc.

My biggest concern, at 47, 6’5, and with lower back issues while also noticing more physical wear/tear after a long life of gyms, weights, sports, running, etc… is will I be able to enjoy it physically in 7-10 years. I too am slightly worried about the miles, but I also side with the drive it crowd.

I do intend to keep it for a long time and a lot of 6 digit miles, I hope.

How can some of you drive your Porsche so rarely? It's my daily commuter, over 40k enjoyable miles. I also have other vehicles at my disposal including a sportbike. But the Porsche is my preferred mode of travel.
Drive your car!!!

Mine is now 15 months old ish and it’s done 8500 miles. I don’t drive it to work unless I need to as there are plenty of throbbers in our staff car park that can’t park for toffee so I use my sons Kia or the wife’s Tesla. If I have to go to work in mine I park it in a secure car park with wide bays but I have to pay for it. Fortunately my commute is 10 miles round trip so doesn’t really put the miles on but I’ve just done a 300 mile trip to Lincoln with my son which was ace.
I wouldn’t worry about mileage unless you’re on a PCP and have a mileage limit, same with insurance.

Get out and drive it. These cars don't like being sat about.

I don't have my 718 yet (Boxster GTS 4.0 on order with a July production date, September delivery), but my 2013 981S is 10 years old (European Delivery in April 2013) and it's got 38,970 miles. In the past 3+ years, though, the average dropped below 2000 per year, because work is now 100% remote, so I have no commute anymore. It's one of two cars, too, so my "practical" car (2016 European Delivery M3) takes a share of the driving too. I think that one is averaging about 6000 miles per year right now.
Drive the car when and where you want to. I only average about 3K miles a year on my Cayman because I work mostly from home and am trying to put roughly the same amount of mileage on two other cars that some may consider "nice" as well (a Macan GTS and an Audi RS5 because I don't need to own an appliance car) so I'm doing about 10K miles a year which is what average people do. I'd be putting more miles on if it were my only car.

I'm in a similar boat (WFH 95% and go in for the odd meeting) so it's not a commuter for me. The other car is an EV and to be honest? I'd much rather put the miles on that. Plus fuel ain't as cheap as the home charger.

But I hear the "you need to drive it!" and you're absolutely right, after the Geo's done I've got a trip to Bedford Aerodrome on the cards.

I'm not on pcp but I guess it's going to fall into the same use case as my M2C. It's (for me) a high days car, amazed I've got the mileage this high so quickly.

My M2C was at 11k after 2 years
I was going to ask a similar question about higher mileages, specifically on the 4.0, and any problems owners have encountered.

Anyway, to answer your question, i'm just coming up to 10K miles since last August. Most of the miles done on 3 Euro trips.

I don't see the point of buying a car like this and doing minimal miles - it's not an investment and won't appreciate. IMO etc.

In my case I think you are using old thinking. I have been transitioned to remote work from home so 7-8k mikes per year when working from home is actually quite bit. If I went to office every day like before COVID it would be 12-15k per year. Unfortunately I actually work a lot from home so don't have a chance to drive as much but I order take out far away to get seat time and weekends I'm out and about in my little blue pill of joy!

I do less than 1000 miles a year in my mint low miles boxster, an occasional weekend treat. A van and VW Polo take the daily wear
