My turn for an allocation cayman GTS

6216 Views 102 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  Treemagnet

Hi everyone!
It’s finally my turn for an allocation for a cayman 718 GTS. I’ve been waiting for a year for this allocation. The car is scheduled to be built starting in April. The dealership is asking for my build by Thursday.

I was hoping I could run my build with you guys as this is the first porsche I’m going to own.
I test drove a 2017 cayman 718 S in manual and absolutely loved it.

I have some questions:
Regarding PASM, it raises the ride height by 10 mm right ? I just want to confirm that this is not a typo. They didn’t mean to say lower by 10mm?
Does anyone here have any experience with the bucket seats? Would they do it again ?
I really can’t decide between shark blue, arctic grey and python green. All are such beautiful colors. Does anyone here own an arctic grey 718 ? Would you do it again ?
Thank you everyone.

May I also ask if there is a huge difference between the standard (free) sports seats plus, vs the 18 way sports seat plus ?

I understand there are manual forward/back, up/down levers. But is there any additional adjustments that don’t come with the standard seats (like thigh adjustments/lumbar support) that can only be made with the 18 way?
Configurator gives the comparison. Consider the 18-Ways.

the 2 way Sports Seats plus on had fore / aft (manual) and an adjuster to raise / lower the seat height. The "2 way" is the seat back recline adjustment
-no lumbar adjustments

the 18 way version has (4-way) lumbar plus thigh support / length adjustment and the backrest bolsters and seat bottom bolsters have power adjustments.

there's power adjustments for fore / aft, seat height - front and rear

the 2 ways have larger bolsters over the 14 way seats, but they are more basic adjustments

Well if the previous comments and suggestions didn't confuse you, let me try harder....

1) LWBS aren't for everyone, but they are great for me (5'7" 155#) and my petite wife. Very comfortable, especially with the custom replacement cushions with memory foam and inflatable lumbar support from P1 Design CustomizeYour Porsche ® Interior with Custom Seat Inserts - P1Designs I strongly suggest you try them out at your dealer, or if they don't have any in stock, try connecting with your local PCA and attend an event. I've had nearly a dozen people try out mine and so far 75% have ordered them and 25% said thanks but no thanks. I do not intend to track my car regularly, maybe an autocross or two and a DE event. The exceptional lateral support of the LWBS is much appreciated by me on winding roads and just in general driving.

2) Navigation: I have it and I'd get it again. Yes, I use Apple CarPlay for directions, but just last week was in an area of poor cell coverage and Siri kept "working on it" but never came through with directions. And the map in the OEM navigation system is much clearer and easier to zoom in/out and read than the cluttered WAZE and Google Maps.

3) If you go with LWBS, the GTS interior package is a great deal. I'd go with chalk on arctic grey. I have chalk on my carmine red. That gets you carbon fiber and full deviated stitching as well as leather interior plus other goodies for less than the al a carte prices.

what a beauty. May I ask that you share your build code ?
thank you.
If you could do it again would you do the bucket seats with the gts package? Or just go with leather and 18 way ?

I’m going to try to sit in these seats. I’m 5 10 and 185 lbs.
I have the standard seats in both my Cayman S and my wife's Boxster and think they're perfect. Why pay extra for something you're going to set once?

I had every which way adjustable seats in my 458. Like I said, I set them once and never again. There is no other adjustment that the standard seats don't provide that I'd need or want.

You definitely need to try the seats. Everyone is different. I find the leather seats to be too hard yet the Race-Tex is super comfortable.

I went for standard interior on my GTS but with extended leather. For me the carbon and contrast stitching wasn't worth the extra £

a lot of wisdom in your post!
Here's my build. I just picked her up few months ago. The buckets are really comfortable for me (I'm 5'7 155lbs) when I tried them in GT4 they had on the lot. It was just a pain to get in and out especially if the doors are only slightly ajar. Which is an issue for me as I have a smaller garage. Not so bad if you can swing the door wide open.

Oak 100 would you do the standard seats again ?

They're the same seats in dimensions in shape, but they are manual up/down and backwards/forwards. They are powered for seatback tilt. You'll be missing adjustable lumber support, adjustable thigh support, adjustable side bolsters, memory seats, and comfort access which moves your seat back and steering wheel up to assist in entry/exit.

For nav, you can enable via SD card method which takes under an hour including downloading files and formatting SD card.

I've had my '22 CGTS for 14 months so don't have a build code anymore. They also changed a few options previously included in the Premium Package. But will configure a 2023 similarly and post.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. I had a 2014 Cayman S for 8.5 years with the 18 way seats and they were great as well. But after ordering a 21 CGTS with the same 18 way seats and having it come in with the 2-way SSP substituted, I got a free do-over from the dealer. I then took the time to drive my neighbors GT3, with my wife in the passenger seat and was sold on the LWBS. Do NOT take my word for it, try them yourself. My neighbor is 6'2" and 225# so you are midway between me and him, but "fit" is subjective.

As for the GTS interior package, yes, I'd absolutely do that again as well. However, the only real choices were GTS interior or not, when you order the LWBS. You can't delete Race Tex or select some of the all leather seat and interior options available with the other seats. But I knew in advance I would ditch the Race Tex seat cushions for the P1 Design replacements and that made the Race Tex less of an issue, being it is only on low touch locations. I was able to select leather steering wheel and shift boot.

Yes, they are comfortable and supportive to me. I'm also the only driver so set once and forget. You should try out all seats in dealership if you can.

Not that I'd bother doing it (I never drive my 718 where I don't know where I am), but are you saying there is some NAV hack available by getting files to put on an SD card?

Yes essentially free DIY or another member Sima can enable it nonimal fee. the SD card is just used to install software and update maps. Make sure to read instructions or risk bricking your PCM :) .

Nice build !
would you do carmine red again ?

We have a carmine and a guards. My wife loves her carmine because it matches her Macan. I prefer the guards, but carmine is a close second. I’d say it’s closer to Ferrari rosso corsa.

Very beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Worth mentioning that Google Maps “Offline Maps” feature solves the poor celular reception issue. Unfortunately Apple hasn’t yet.

@ Hydralazine -

I'm a 1st time Porsche owner myself. A few questions for clarity:

What part of the USA? If Hot (AZ, FL, TX, etc.) vented seats might be a consideration (which nixes GTS interior - i believe).

Assuming $$ is part of the equation...Are you planning PPF, Ceramic coating, Tinting windows, any Porsche Warranties (Tire/Wheel, etc.), and of course the urge to swap out the OAPs & add valve controller? These add up real fast beyond the build price. If so you may want to look at trade-offs. Are the 18-ways really worth the $$?

If $$ is no problem then build your dream and enjoy!
