Hi folks, I was just wondering if it's possible to add the basic navigation to my 718 Boxster. I didn't get any of the Connect options, so just wondering if it's possible and what the cost would be...

As @trusted notes, OEM nav is retrofittable -- but it will not have the same functionality of the factory-installed unit. The most notable difference is that the map display in the right-hand gauge nacelle is not possible with a non-factory-installed unit. I believe voice control is limited as well, but am not certain about that ... maybe some of our Porsche-employed members can chime in on this?

From the TEquipment website:
<<Please note: No additional map display on the multi-function display of the instrument cluster. Please take into account the additional equipment scopes subject to charge if your vehicle is not equipped with voice control/navigation.>>

Also, the $2,200 price is for the unit only; install cost will be extra.

I had my previous 981 retrofitted by dealer (in UK) with nav but this involved replacing whole unit as different screen completely. They did it for same cost as if I'd specced it from factory but said it should have actually cost more than that even without fitting! I didn't get the secondary map in the instrument cluster but I do have this now on my 718. Does anyone know if this can be turned off in the settings. It's totally unnecessary when you can quite adequately see the main screen. And sometimes it displays on and off and on again when you're in the middle of scrolling through for something else.

I considered NAV a must-have option in my relatively frugal options list....then went without in grabbing an alternative car from dealer lot. Now I'm reconsidering the whole necessity/desirability of factory NAV.....see #4 https://jalopnik.com/5961179/the-most-ridiculously-expensive-factory-car-options

It's true, and he doesn't even mention waze.com which, because it also shows police locations, debris in road, etc. (as reported in real-time by the network of app users), may be of greater value than the proprietary nav systems OEM'd by automakers.
