Hi all, so it's a shame that this has to be my first post since being back from my trip, but it's going to eat me alive until it's solved. The car is incredible, the trip was incredible, everything is amazing, and I'll detail this all in a later post, but right now I need a problem solved immediately. This is too early to have a problem and I'm VERY frustrated.

The spoiler is stuck UP in my brand new CGTS4.0. It will not go down. The button instead BLINKS and goes down just a tiny bit. Why is this happening and how do I solve this problem?

So I had the car in sport mode last night when I pulled into the garage, and I did not put back in the normal position. The spoiler was up when I came home and I didn't bring it down.

Fast forward to just now, I went out to check on the car and show a friend, as well as lower the spoiler, and to my embarrassment, the spoiler WILL NOT GO DOWN.

The button is lit, with spoiler in UP position. I simply hit the button to bring it down, and it appears to go down a very small amount, and the button starts BLINKING.

It just won't go down. The roads are a complete mess, and I don't want to take it out right now. I somehow made it all the way home without any salt or mess getting on the car, so I would ideally not want to drive it right now.

Can someone help me? I remember someone had an issue like this but I can't remember the solution.

Did you try holding the button down (like 10 seconds or more?).

if that doesn’t work, I think you do unfortunately have to drive it to get it to reset

718 Cayman - Rear Spoiler in a very strange position

Hi after washing my car, I raised the rear spoiler, as usual, to dry perfectly everything. I started the car and after pushing the related button to lower it I saw it going up more than usual ... now it is stuck up in this position. it is not the position when it comes out... it is higher...

So ostensibly what's the deal with the spoiler? I didn't notice any automatic raising or lowering on my trip, but granted I was mostly in normal mode. What makes it go automatically UP and automatically DOWN? Is it dependent on being in a certain mode, or speed?

it’s speed dependent. The threshold speed on some models does change by mode. But every Porsche I’ve ever driven, the spoiler will go up and down in normal mode.

if you never saw yours go up then you were either going slow or something might be wrong with the spoiler.

some detritus / debris may have found itself into the works

an intense flashlite plus some 20/20 might find the culprit

In a Cayman you can NEVER see the spoiler if you are inside the car. With the hatch closed anyway.

If you are stopped or at low speed you have to hold the button down for awhile to get it to go down. Or drive at 20+ MPH to get it to go down with the button.

haha definitely not too slow. I didn't go nuts (yet) but I hit 100 on several occasions. The way I sit in the car, I can't really see it in my rear view. So say I'm in normal mode, driving along and hit 80 or whatever the speed is... will it go up AND the button will automatically light up, just in normal mode without me doing anything?

Once I solve this issue I'm going to do a nice write up. The car is mind-blowing. I did 1500 miles in 3 days.

I didn’t realize you can’t actually see the spoiler in the mirrors on the Cayman. You can in a lot of the other cars. So that would explain why you didn’t see it!

yes, the operation is automatic. I can’t remember if the light comes on when a spoiler deploys automatically.

I should point out my experience with this is from 996, 997, 970. The only Cayman I have seat time in is the GT4 and obviously that doesn’t have this feature.

I hope long pressing the button works for you. That’s been consistent on other Porsches.

@StandardJerseyAhole the spoiler goes up at 125 km/h or here in the USA at 77.67139903 mph aka 78 mph. Nothing wrong with your spoiler stuck up when still. I think its to prevent someone lowering the spoiler accidentally when the button is hit. Something to try, hit the down button, when it doesn't go down, hit it again. That works for me most times.

OK OK OK.......If there is one thing that I have learned since owning my 2019 Cayman S....The problem is probably "ME" and there is nothing wrong with my car. Take a breath, shut the car down and go in for the night, pour yourself a drink and go to sleep. The next morning everything will be fine. Read the manuals and watch the videos as much as you can. These cars are fantastic and rarely will anything stupid go wrong with them!!!! You should have seen me the first time pulling out of my garage at 1mph and making a hard right........LOL.I thought the front end was falling off. I am unable to see my spoil go up and down from the driver side but I know that it is. I think we have all been there and at the time it was not funny, but I still get a good laugh at reading the panic from new owners and that I was once one of them. Thank god for the forum!!!!!!

automagicaly up at 78mph, down ar 50mph. If manually raised, spoiler won't go back down by itself

Red light on the button won't come on when spoiler operates automatically

At stop or low speed, one press to auto up, hold until light goes off to drop (safety thing I think)

Over 20mph, auto up and down with the button

I'm quite sure you need to press and hold the button for a few seconds in order for the spoiler to go fully down when stopped.

It's a safety feature so hopefully people don't get fingers caught as it closes.

Just went out and held down the button and it went down. She's all set.

I'm just glad it wasn't a faulty part. I can deal with a quirky process, but a broken part already would have made me nuts.

I had the same thing and absolutely right you can't tell if the spoiler is up or down from the driving seat, shame the button doesn't light up or something.

Porsche told me it was a was pretty common fault and may have needed a new motor. They were able to adjust mine though and appears OK now.
