Super excited to get my first Porsche. I've had many cars over the years, most of them excellent, but moving up to a Porsche feels like it will be a different experience. From what I've read and my short drive in a 718, the engineering and focus on the driver is completely different. I'm trying not to think about it too much for fear of getting the car and being disappointed- however I enjoy quality and things that are well designed, so I'm sure my 718 will grow on me. Placed my order in march - it's been a long wait...

Many of us who have waited that LONG wait understand your situation. I have to admit that I had some of the same doubts you did when the time to take delivery of my car was getting close. This was also my first Porsche ("technically".....long story).

At the end of the day, I have been delighted by the car.

The 718 has it's quirks and personality traits but none are deal breakers. Actually, its all part of the unique experience of owning a Porsche.

You'll love it!

I picked up mine last week and it's my first Porsche too. So far only about 250 miles on ( had 6 when I got it) so not a lot of experience with it yet but sure enjoying it so far. We use it pretty much for top down nice day driving and I think it will meet our needs nicely ( and my co pilot likes it).

Congratulations.......pretty sure the 718 will not disappoint. Did you order a Cayman or Boxster? Base or "S" model?

My car is 718 Cayman, 20" carerra wheels, multi function steering wheel, larger fuel tank, model designation delete, black on black/Bordeaux leather. Not many options as I could not stomach or afford most of the exorbitant Porsche option prices. I worked for a major OEM for 15 yrs so I know what the 'factory cost' is for options. Porsche mark up on these options is crazy - however I know the engineering that went into the chassis and engine is the best in the world and this is not a mass market car. I think the 718 is the best value sports car out there - know others that want corvettes for the same money but I have zero interest in those types of cars with gimmick dashboards, crappy seats and a huge engine. Can't wait, about ten days away...

You can get a base 718 Cayman or Boxster and have an absolute blast..........but gotta love all those bells and whistles, that is, until you try to recoup those costs on resale.

Wow, a lot of us are getting our cars in the next 7-14 days...should be a flood of new pictures on here! :)

Mine got off the boat in San Francisco on the 5th... It's only a 10 hour drive from Sacramento, CA to SLC, UT so I'm hoping it will arrive before the 20th?

Interestingly enough, I have some very wealthy friends who can afford Turbo's on up the line, and a lot of no-so-well-off friends who live hand to mouth, so I'm trying to find the balance between being excited and humble about my 25 year dream finally coming true, buying "just a base Cayman."
People are funny. MOST of my friends though, just ask for updates on its arrival and want to know when I'm going to take them out for a ride in it. I like those people the best, no matter how much they make. ;-)

Why do people get the model designation delete? For myself as far back as I can remember I liked the clean look on German cars and I think it keeps people wondering... at least most people. My car was built 5/22 and left Germany on 6/29, comes to Halifax and then to Toronto area, so I can enjoy the rest of the summer driving. Break in period will be somewhat of a drag as I won't use this car as a daily commuter - been waiting 20 yrs to get a car like this!

Exciting! You are going to love it! :)

I'll get the model designation delete just because it makes the rear easier to clean/detail.

I left the 718 on--the rest was just too much.

Please be careful with the run-in, no driving over 100 mph until it's complete.0:)

I chose the model delete option (no cost!) for the above reason and to keep people guessing.

I have to say it was a royal pain in the neck to detail around the badging and fortunately my 3RS they are all painted for "weight saving"......I know a tad extreme. Porsche doesn't even use a real Porsche badge on the front hood....Porsche replaced it with a sticker. These judicious replacements could easily add a trillionth of a second to my lap time....Kevin Estre look out!

I included, the model designation delete because I will be putting on black, "718 Cayman" stickers onto the rear of the car, just like on the GT3. (yeah, they aren't painted at the factory, even on the GT3, so nuts for that much money) I'll also put the same stickers on the doors myself. (yeah, those aren't painted on as the $320 option from the factory either!)
So I had the stickers made 2 months ago. 4 of them, for $38 shipped. Only need three, figured I'd get a back up in case I mess one up, but I've installed a lot vinyl, so it shouldn't be a problem. I didn't want to put PlastiDip on the chrome 3-D emblems on the car either, so stickers it shall be!
