Hi everyone,

Just wanted to quickly introduce myself because I secured a confirmed allocation for a new 2023 Cayman GTS 4.0 yesterday through a local dealer, and I've received so much great advice by searching around on the 718 Forum over the past few weeks. This will be my first Porsche (and the first car I ever bought that wasn't used!). I couldn't be more excited and am so happy to join this community too. Delivery is set for mid-November.

I haven't hit my freeze change date yet but here's what I'm thinking:
  • Gentian blue
  • Premium package
  • Black leather 18 way seats
  • Black leather interior instead of brushed aluminum (any thoughts on this choice?)
  • Chalk deviated stitching interior
  • Manual transmission
  • Power steering plus
  • PASM (raised 10mm)
  • Bose speakers
  • Deletion of GTS 4.0 decals on the sides
  • Porsche crest on headrests
  • Brake calipers in black
  • Satin black wheels
  • Navigation including Porsche Connect and Voice Control
  • Smartphone compartment

What am I missing? I'm open to ideas. I was ideally hoping for exterior in Forest Green metallic because you just don't see many of those and I think it looks great -- but the dealer told me Porsche isn't accepting paint-to-sample requests right now... now sure why?

Congrats. PTS is generally only offered at specific times - the next is apparently early in 2023. Many build items are personal taste, so I won't offer any comments on them. There are a few things that you should be aware of:

  • Seats. 18 ways are magnificent, but if you don't need the umpteen adjustments or the memory, the Sports Seats Plus are pretty good.
  • PASM - this will provoke a response. I went for the -10 as well because of clearance worries. Did I sacrifice some handling magic? Who knows - the car is a lot better than the driver is.
  • I have the leather trim option, but I have two tone leather. Black on black means you have no contrast, which is fine if that's what you are after. You could also consider black brushed aluminum which would provide a texture contrast. I might pick the regular aluminum, but that's me. I would also get either chalk or red seatbelts.
  • PSP - you will get heavily shelled for this. I have had it on two Caymans. Is it needed? Absolutely not. Does it work? Yes.
  • Navigation and Connect are a hole to throw money into. If you have to have the map on the right instrument binnacle, or if you travel frequently in areas without cell coverage then yes, consider it. Otherwise CarPlay displays Waze, Google Maps Apple Maps or others on the PCM display just fine. As far as connect is concerned, be advised that Porsche is very good at sportscars, but pretty poor at software. Lots of glitches.
  • Smartphone compartment. The consensus is that it's a waste of money. Apparently it boosts the cell signal somewhat (at least it's supposed to) but that's it.

I really just wanted to say congrats on securing the allocation! You've completed the hardest part already. 👌

Congratulations on the allocation.

My freeze point hits tomorrow on a BB. I originally wanted 14 way seats but after much discussion with friends with Porsches and others on here I decided to just do the 2 way Sport Plus seats. This will be an occasional driver and almost exclusively by me so I made the decision I didn't need all of the adjustments nor did I need the memory function. Saved some money and made some other cosmetic changes I was on the fence about.

I've never had an auto manufacturer's nav system installed. They never seem to be up to date, the updates are expensive, and there's nothing I can't do with their navigation that I can't do with my smartphone plugged into the car. If I need directions I just say, "Hey Siri." and tell her to get me the address and route it.

The Smartphone compartment DOES NOT charge the phone. It merely boosts the signal strength which gives a minimal increase in battery life but no cell phone charging. That is an expensive upgrades with no benefit.

Add smokers package - it will cover up the small cubby hole at end of console and adds a 12V port

GTS comes with PASM Sport as standard (-20mm lower than base) and has the firmer suspension
-the PASM -10mm increases ride height and softer sway bars (unless that's what you want)

Brushed black aluminum will add more "texture" to the interior - the upper and lower dash will be covered in smooth black leather to begin with

Here's a door panel example with the Black Brush Aluminum - the 2nd picture is from a 911 - but you'll see the Black Brushed aluminum trim there as well

Power Steering Plus - many don't feel its necessary - it boosts the assist at low speeds, such as parking. At regular road speeds, it doesn't affect anything

another item to consider - Sports Seat Plus backs in leather; since your getting deviated stitching -
-by default, they are silver painted plastic. Here's a side shot of the seat w/o the leather and 2nd with that option + deviated stitching (Graphite Blue w/ yellow stitch)

PTS is typically done at end of model year run; with the backlog of orders - probably decision to hold off as a delay that long might end up with customers cancelling orders and with a PTS, probably too risky.

To build on @OttawaSteve's comments, which are dead on, please try every possible seating configuration available. I love my 18-ways and I'm sure you will too. However, I slide around too much at the track and wish my back could have handled the carbon fiber buckets. The standard plastic steering column casing is uber cheap looking (seriously as bad as the one in my Suburban), so go for the deviated stitched leather casing if it's within your budget...you'll always be grateful for that choice. Definitely go for the deviated seat back covers in @Hal H's post if you can...those are my racing yellow stitched seats in the last pic and they look awesome!

You'll be thrilled with your new GTS regardless of your options...congrats and welcome!

GTS Interior Package - RaceTex seats. I live them and they look great too. Surprisingly not hot in the summer and warm in winter. Save the leather for your eventual other car.
As been noted, PSP is something you can wait on if you think you need it. It is only a software upgrade so you can do it later ergo why pay for it until you think you need it?

I have CarPlay and the ONLY reason I'd like to have navigation (other than the various options I already have) is to get the use of the built in GPS for keeping my SC clock up to date on the right time, and also there is that optional PCM screen with the big compass on it that is dormant without use of the GPS. I'm planning to get @simaservis1108 to add navigation this coming Fall for that inane reason.

I’ve had a PORSCHE with PSP and without PSP and I can honestly say that it’s very useful at low speed and when parking however, if you can find 2 cars to test (one with and one without) make your own decision. My wife likes it as it’s easier for her to park. As mentioned you can add it later or even have it coded out if you don’t like it. Is it a must? No. Is it a nice to have? Yes.

I hope you know that if you wont go with the dual zone climate then you will not have a fully automatic temperature control.
Basically you can only set the target temperature for heating and cooling if you go with the dual zone climate

FYI for the OP: GTS interior has carbon fiber trim - with that package, you can't change the interior trim options. And if desired, you can add the Manual Gear Lever in Carbon Fiber - the standard is shiny silver.

The render is a bit off - the lighter upper portion is silver finish, below the "circle" is CF finish

Here's a 2nd render from my config - it bit more resolution on the CF lever option:

I'm not sure that your cell/google maps uses data for navigation. Many times I have no coverage in the mountains but google maps works fine via apple carplay. And yes, Porsche Nav sucks by comparison.

Because Google maps and wazze pre caches your route and you can also have offline map downloaded.
What you can loose without mobile coverage is the real time traffic info. Or re route if you needed to change

Hey everyone - thanks for all the great advice. Definitely considering the leather seat back covers and the leather on the steering column.

A few quick questions:
1) If I get rid of the cell phone compartment in the center console, will a standard iPhone fit in the cup/coin holder?
2) Does anyone have a picture of a Cayman center console without the cell phone compartment so I can see how deep/roomy it is?
3) If you don't have the smokers package, how do you charge your phone?

you still have the storage area in the console - just not the tray with the signal booster - with the option, it deletes the 12V port within the compartment and the Aux port in the glovebox
-there's a USB connector in the console

there's a 12V port in the passenger side footwell - side of the console tunnel

if you did the phone compartment option and not the smokers package - probably using the USB cable (in the console) would be the means of charging the phone...
