Not a 718 owner (yet) but looking. Specifically for a base Cayman with options.

After owning the Boxster / Cayman predecessor, the much maligned 914, for about 38 years I am quite used to the 911 owners snubbing. But not so much now as years ago, what with the proliferation of Porsche SUVs and 4-door sedans. The little 914 gets a bit more respect.

Not sure I need another mid-engine 2.0 Porsche but the AC would really be a welcome addition. I have been playing with the Porsche configurator and have a pretty good idea what I would like to include. The PDK is the main option, and well it has to be blue.

You don't see many 914's about nowadays & in fact I know of only one local to me & that's looking really tatty. Unfortunately I've only seen it in passing when I've been on foot or I'd have probably asked him what he want's for it. A very good friend of mine has facilities where something like that could be a good restoration project & I'm sure he'd jump at the chance. When he gets around to finally completing the Lotus Europa, Lotus Elan & Lotus Elan+2 of course. Not to mention the two BSA Bantam's he's rebuilding, the Peugeot commercial van he's also working on, or the numerous competition Land Rover defenders he's constantly stripping down & upgrading, or the old BMW M4, or the 2 Land Rover discovery's currently awaiting attention. Come to think of it, perhaps I should just give it a miss as he's got enough on his plate. Nice idea though & personally I think it's a great little car & you should definitely hang on to yours for as long as possible. :D

Welcome! Base 2018 Cayman here too!

If you're in P-burgh, and have the time be sure to stop by and see us at the 2018 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in Schenley on July 14-15.
We're from NJ but we're always there with the #909 MG Midget.

And the PVGP usually has two or three 914s running in the faster sessions. This is one from 2017.

True story from a long, long time ago:

My older sister introduces her visiting ex-boyfriend (who is into British sports cars....this is mid-70s) to her local friends, incl. a young couple (John and Blanche) with a 914.

Ex: "I hear you are sports car people....Triumph or MG?"
John: "huh?"
Ex: "I thought the universe was divided into Triumph people and MG people"
Blanche: "Oh....we thought the universe was divided into Porsche people and other people"

I’m in Pittsburgh too. I just bought a new 2017 Caymen S from Auto Palace Saturday. They gave me a great deal. They do have a blue Caymen on the showroom floor.

I was at Auto Palace a couple weeks ago picking up some parts for my 914 and saw the Sapphire Blue 718 Cayman they have on the floor. That's what put the hook in, and eventually led me here. The weather was to bad to want to take a test drive, but I plan to go back and take one out for a ride. I'm sure that will sink the hook a little deeper. The one they have isn't optioned how I would like. Its good to hear that Auto Palace is open to negotiation. I hope they will deal on a ordered vehicle.

We do get to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, and will have to keep an eye out for your #909 MG Midget. I didn't know Sewickley was running a 914.

That 914 of yours is SWEET. Definitely hang onto it ...

... and most dealers will deal somewhat on a custom order. Particularly on a base 718 Cayman, which isn't selling as well as either Boxster model, you should be able to get 5-7 percent off MSRP without much trouble ...

... especially if you're willing to 'shop around' for those who want your business. I see that there's another Porsche dealer in Pittsburgh, as well as a couple in Cleveland and Columbus; use that to your advantage. That said, if you've relied on Auto Palace for 914 parts, etc. for a number of years, that relationship should pay some benefits when you negotiate. Porsche dealers generally want to keep the customers they already have. 0:)

Good luck!
