Hi everyone, new to the forum, purchased my first Porsche last week, a 2018 718 Cayman Base 6-speed, I'd talk about how much I love it but its been snowing like **** in Illinois, so haven't really had much of a chance to drive it...

I have been around the brand for a long time, excited to call one my own.

My real question is...Porsche Connect???

My car has the $1020 option, but no navigation or keyless drive or anything. So I know I get CarPlay, great, but my Porsche connect apps are pretty useless. Car Connect shows me how much gas I have or if my car is locked, no remote services, and the Connect app apparently does not even work with my car. I have registered in the portal, got all my activation codes, spoken to countless customer service reps and the consensus is that I just don't get most of the services.

So am I to understand that Porsche will charge $1,020 for an option that only allows you to use $350 of it (Apple CarPlay?)

It’s a pretty useless option. You’ll need to pay for the upgrade to get some of the more remote options. All of which are just gimmicks. Most of the Apps require a (in the uk at least) require a additional monthly subscription with the app developer. Ie. Amazon music or Napster. Complete waste.

First: Welcome to the forum!

Now: Porsche Connect is a bit more involved than what you state above. That $1k also gets you smartphone integration, which not only makes CarPlay possible but also includes the phone cradle and USB plug under the armrest. That allows you to use the phone with the car's hands-free telephony, feed music to PCM4 via a digital connection (important for resolution, if you care about that sort of thing), and several other things that would normally be handled either by Bluetooth or not at all.

Is it pricey for what is included? Yes. But to future-proof the car, I feel it's a must-order option -- and at least you had the option to add Nav independently. For early 2018 models, one had to pony up for Porsche Connect Plus for Nav; it was not available any other way.
