Wow really enjoyed my first day of driving, I need to read everyone’s advice on breaking in as I’m not sure I can hold back on that throttle for 2000miles, how is that possible???
I’m trying to attach a couple of photos, hope it works

Beautiful car/color. Agate was my 2nd choice......in fact, the primary reason for not choosing it was because my wife's 2018 A3 is essentially the same color. I went with Night Blue Metallic. However, my interior is Agate Grey.........As to keeping it under max revs for 2,000 miles......this is my 5th Cayman so have broken in a number of them. I have found this to be, by far, the easiest to avoid flooring the loud pedal because you get max torque at 1,950 RPM. I have found that driving in Sport Mode (actually Individual on Chrono set to Sport, Sport on PASM, PSE Open, and Start/Stop off) I rarely see much above 3,000 under even reasonably spirited acceleration. I actually go to the paddles to take it up to 4,000). If you have your boost set as one of the configurable options on the display you will be surprised at how much below max boost you will see under spirited acceleration. Enjoy!!!!

Thanks for the advice @RGM718 I have been playing with Sport and Normal modes and at the moment much prefer Sport due to the slight delay in acceleration in Normal after it has been in coast mode, I do find that a bit frustrating and hope it gets smoother over time. Not tried the paddles yet so that’s today’s fun exercise ?

I spent months choosing between Agate and GT Silver with the combinations of wheels and colours, not sure you can go wrong with any though, truth be told my dream car for years was a Grey Aston Martin and I think this is my superior substitute lol
@timlaw thanks for the invite but I had posted to say I can’t make that one but hope to do so at any future meets, looking forward to seeing the group photo!!

hope to meet at a future session - probably I would have gone with agate if I had not chosen GT silver , all black items in high gloss and Carrera sport wheels in gloss black - it does look just a bit special tho i say so myself lol

@UKG

that's a lovely looking 718 Cayman you have there! looks stunning

enjoy it!!!!! yes I imagine its really hard to keep the throttle pegged back, On the subject on breaking in the engine, I don't yet know what Porsche advise on this, however its more of an old fashioned thing as now days as the engineering is so good its not really needed or required, saying that I will take it easy for the first 1000 miles... I know Ferrari say you can take it to the red line as soon as you collect the car...
Saying this do what you feel is best for you as its your car. This is possibly the best advice to give you as everyone will have different opinions on this subject

I recognise that showroom - Exeter isn't it. Coincidentally I also agonised over whether to go for agate or GT silver but went for the silver in the end because the agate has a brown tinge in daylight - though it looks fantastic in the showroom. But I'm not sure I made the right choice.

I have never noticed my car go into "coast" mode - and I've deliberately tried to set up the right conditions: Stop/start enabled, not in sport mode, foot off the throttle. It simply wont do it. BTW is that car PASM - I was wondering what the 20" wheels are like on what pass for "roads" in Devon. I've got 19"ers and standard suspension (I was worried about ground clearance) and it's not too bad.

Regarding running in a new car - won't Porsche know via the plug in diagnostics if an engine has been over revved ?
Also, having read other posts on here how come US owners get a free running in service after approx 2000 miles whereas UK owners are told no service is needed until 2 years or 20000 miles ?

@Grasshopper yes you recognised the showroom correctly, as far as coasting I’m pretty sure the engine has to be fully warmed up and it’s only in 7th gear so motorway driving, the revs drop to about 900, perhaps my car has an issue?? It is fine in Sport mode

I don’t have PASM and no complaints with wheels so far, was ok on a spirited drive through Woodbury to Budleigh anyway. Not very manoeuvrable and feels heavy if crawling but I expect the 19’s are similar?

Does the Cayman have a coast function with the PDK box? Dimwit here asking. I've only covered 1200 or so miles so far some of which on the motorway but never had the drive train "disengage" as would happen with the Macan.

Hi Nosmo

Yes the PDK in the Cayman has the coast function. The car has to be fully warmed up but you can over ride this by pulling the up paddle to try and select an imaginary 8th gear and it will coast

You really don’t notice it escpecially on the motorway. The Macan seems to almost pick up speed when coasting because of the weight behind it but the cayman literally coasts along

I've never got mine to coast - maybe it's faulty. I'll try using the paddle next time I'm going downhill on trailing throttle. Actually my Start/stop seems to have packed up so maybe they're connected. I'll ask them to have a look at it when I take it in for the side vent recall.

I think the start stop needs a number of things to be in alignment before it works such as fully charged battery, car up to running temperature, outside temp above x degrees etc etc

The coast mode might also adapt to your driving style so only cuts in when it knows you are driving economically. It def does not work if you are in sport mode or sport plus.
