Hi All,

My wife & me placed an order for a base Cayman in early October after an intense (stressful) 4 month journey (PKS67M76).

This will be our first Porsche and we are expecting to take delivery end of January or early February 2019. Moving from a MK3 TT.
Our OPC (Glasgow) have been brilliant and agreed to transport our car directly to our detailer on arrival into the country. The car will take around 1 week to detail & PPF protect (full front Expel & Fenylab ceramic coating – not our usual Gtechniq). We will delay register it for a March registration.

The wait begins.

Thanks Nosmo. Love this forum, been using a lot ahead of our purchase.
It took a long time to settle on GT silver - metallic was a requirement and red our ideal - Carmine, perfect we thought, until we discover its a solid and carries a £1650 premium. :(

Wheels were the next long debate. We were originally looking at 19's because of the higher profile to give better wheel protection, however these were very difficult to find in the flesh; almost all show room cars have 20's fitted. After touring all 4 dealerships in our area we found a couple of examples wearing 19's which we were really not keen on, we were also very lucky to find a GT Silver with the Carrera Sports wheels, which we had not even considered on the configurator.

So for us the multiple trips to OPC's to view what we were looking for paid off, had we ordered the 19s unseen we would have been disappointed. Additionally had we not seen the Carrera wheels we would never have bought, we would most likley have gone 911 turbo.

Agreed, they were excellent. Never been to a garage where the fist thing they ask is "do you want a test drive"

We managed to get a good deal on our forward order: 3 months locked trade in value for our TT. plus 4! x PEC tickets to Silverstone, going to travel down to end of March with whole family plus we also got 4 range tickets as well even managed a bit of dealer contribution - timing everything in this deal I think, just after long shut down.

Dealt with Liam who is very enthusiastic and very helpful. Cant fault them -Perth really helped with our negotiations.

WIll need to look out for your Boxter, not seen any for months, pretty rare around our way - did you order or buy from stock? If the latter we drove 2 of their Boxters - no Caymans for test drive, they seemed to sell out of those leaving a lot of Boxters only in stock.

Also test drove a blsck Boxter we made lots of progress on our weekend drives :) 2 actually a couple of months apart. Ended up PASM that was a must have was not after test drive 2. Got a red Cayman from Perth for the weekend as well - between the 3 cars we crossed 1000 miles. Many spec changes after that.

Looks like we are close if your Fischer Gardens we are Castle Gardens.

Thanks :) we cant wait.

These Carrera wheels with black powder coating look amazing on a Carmine.

If carmine had been a metallic paint special option we would most likely have chosen that colour instead (attached), however we are very happy with GT Silver and the other pic is what swung our choice on colour and wheel combo.

great choice of car colour and wheels but I am very biased

the PEC at Silverstone is great fun and directly led to buying my current car after doing what they called the "718 experience" - it really showed me what these cars can do - will probably do it again at my own expense next year

I always wanted the Carrera sport wheels and probably wouldn't have chosen them in gloss black but that is how my pre owned car had been specced but I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them as my car has all the black bits in high gloss which really suits the wheels

I bet march seems a long way off

great choice on the extended demo's as well

you will love it

should have gone with GT Silver and the Carrera sport wheels :( - see picture of my car above

I was going to order a new CGTS as well and would have been taking delivery in march but my car came into stock at an OPC 10 miles from my home in an awesome spec and only 2500 miles on the clock so the idea of waiting went right out of the window

Hi Timlaw,

Your car also helped sway us towards GT silver, looks stunning - love those wheels ;)
Colour was our single biggest headache, looked at so many car/wheel combo's on line, configurator and many weeks of touring multiple OPC before we committed.

Why is it that special paint is in solid not metallic and why such a narrow range of colours to choose from - no red metallic?? Anyway we are now happy with our choice. :) - can’t wait.

We managed to swing 4 x PEC (FOC) tickets to Silverstone, so the 6hr trip down will now be a family affair, which I am sure will have some degree of competition; going down at the end of March, so we should have had our car for around a month before we go; ideally we would have liked to go before collection, however distance and weather risk at that time of year meant we pushed it out to spring.

Was not a fan of black, however we test drove a jet black Boxter/Turbo 20 wheels and that looked great (test drive car - pic), really suits the Boxter I think.

Glad to have helped

You can have almost any colour you want under the paint to sample order process but the cost is high

The number of colours does seem to have reduced even more

Have fun at silverstone

Hi Scubaregs,

Got any pics to share and your specs? Great getting a car without a wait with 7miles on it.

Have used Incredible detail in Hillington several times (They opened a 2nd unit in Hamilton and mostly do Maclarens now, check out the site, some awesome cars in the gallery), they are now also AR detailing too in Hillington - very handy for me.

We are looking at a new car detail. Glasgow have agreed to deliver direct into them on a low loader - how good is that :)

Will take a week to get Expel PPF - full front sides and few more bits + ceramic Fenylab (self heal coating - google that, very interesting), which was reccomended by our detailer. We normally go Gtechniq with Exo. Car Detailing Glasgow | Car Detailing Edinburgh | Car Detailing Scotland | Incredible Detail

Not heard of DMD they look good on the site, not heard of KubeBond, a good detailer and prep is what makes them all work or not.

PPF around the side air intakes apparently is a must to prevent damage, have you got any PPF applied - seen any gravel rash if not? My wife can see swirls at 50 paces, me not so much.

4 on 4 off must be great on the off days in the summer for some nice top down road trips :)

Had a couple of chips each side at the intakes, detailler told me which paint repair kit to get and fixed them before starting on the ceramic coating. Despite being mega careful, I also had swirls which he dealt with before ceramic coating, mine was done as a nearly new car.

I run a small fb page for Scottish boxster owners and I'm active on Boxa.net. Few cayman owners on there too as cars are very similar.

Through Boxa.net myself and a couple of others are running a "Scottish scramble" weekend at the start of April. 2 or 3 nights, we have a fantastic deal at Brander Lodge Hotel ? Argyll Hotel on the River Awe, Scotland for dinner bed and breakfast and will do runs on the Friday and Saturday.

At the moment we have not filled the hotel, not sure if it is your thing or not but I'm sure we would allow a Cayman.
